Seriously what the heck people hear Catherine and automatically call me Cathy. You told me your name was Doug and your associate was Michael I did not call you Dougie and Mikey.
Does anyone else get nicknames they don't want put upon them?

my name is carolyn and i get 'caroline' as often as carolyn. i know they are similar but they aren't the same and i bristle everytime i hear it!!

Luckily I dont have it too bad. I usually introduce myself as 'Jenn' since thats what I've always gone by. Sometimes I get Jan and the worst is when people think its okay to give me the nickname 'Jenny' Ugh i HATE that name. I correct them as soon as I can without being rude, but I cant stand being called Jenny.

my mom has a rather ethnic name that is difficult to pronounce. Since it starts with ROS, everyone asks if she can be called Rose.... she HATES, I repeat, HATES being called Rose.... usually you hear her grumble something in her underbreath as people scream Rose from across the room

whats crazy is when vendors email me at work and will either write Diane or Dianna. Hello!!! you have my email address and it resolves to a name!! read it!

I can totally relate. My name is Meegan (notice the two E's). You pronounce BOTH of them. But people always call me Megan. And I actually respond to it because it's just easier than always explaining myself. But people also spell my name wrong all the time. I've had people tell me 'oh I thought it was a typo' or ask 'did your parents make a mistake?' I guess because of this I always try really hard to get people's names right

I have the same problem. It is like Hello... My name is Melissa!!!! I would have told you hi my name is Missy if that is what I wanted to be called!!!

I don't think there are any shorter versions of my name, but people are always calling me Jamie, or spelling it really wrong. It's three letters, AMY, why they feel the need to throw in 3 more (aimee) is beyond me.
