My Poor Hubby! (updated)

Went to his Mom's house for dinner last night .... she made some kind of baked chicken ....

He came home at midnight, and has been sooooooo sick ever since. We've been up ALL night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Violently vomiting every 2 hours at first .... now its slowed down a little bit, to every 2 1/2 hours. His face is all splotchy from broken blood vessels.

He finally fell asleep (I can't sleep ), I hope this lasts a bit longer.

I feel so bad, I just don't know what to do for him. My mom dropped off some Pepto this morning, when he wakes up I might have him try that.

Is there a virus going around? Or was it the darn chicken?

Any one have ideas or helpful hints on this one?

Update on DH

A HUGE thank you to all you girls for all your advice and hugs today, you really helped me (as always!)

He slept for almost 9 hours straight!!!!!

And I was able to sleep about 4 hours while he slept, which I really needed too!

We think its out of his system now, he just feels really weak and icky. But he's been able to keep some solid foods down ... a couple of pretzels, some rye toast, and a handful of rice chex cereal (dry, no milk).

Usually when he's sick he won't let anyone take care of him, but he's actually been letting me help him with things ... the biggest sign that he's feeling really really crummy.

I just want him to be better!

When he called his mom after he woke up, he told her that she tried to poison him last night!

probally the virus, I had it over christmas, mine got so bad I was in the hospital, but for the most part i hear its usually only 24-48 hours. keep him hydrated, that was my problem, i was passing out!

Hope he's better soon!

It sounds like if it came on that fast it was the food....unless you ate it too and were fine? In which case it could be a virus. I'm so incredibly helpful I know Hopefully either way it will end quickly and he'll feel better. Sometimes when it's that violent it's best not to take anything until it seems like everything is over, then start with some water or gatorade.

To me, it sounds like the chicken is the culprit but don't quote me on that
Hope he feels better soon-definitely keep him hydrated.

He's been drinking water, and started with a little diluted gatorade .... since its been so violent, i want to avoid the dry heaves (those are the worst!)

I didn't go, I wasn't feeling up to it, they only live 6 blocks away so it wasn't a big deal .... and his mom didn't call last night to say that anyone else was sick. I'll call her later to see for sure.

Hmmm ... that's a good point.

It seems like he might be ok, its been 3 hours now since his last episode (not sure what else to call it! )

ugh, so sorry.

I wouldn't take any pepto - you don't want to stop whatever is needing to come out

No food, just liquids (although that will probably make him throw up too) and just take it easy. It'll pass. Whatever it is, it wont' last for more than 2 days.

Keep him on fluids and try some crackers or dry toast in another hour. Most likely the chicken, since it came on so fast!

Hope he is feeling better soon and that you are able to get some sleep!

Thanks Ryan!

I told him last night that this is just training for when we have little ones

I don't want to wake him, he's been sleeping about 2 hours now ... maybe later today we'll try the crackers to see if he can keep them down

Thanks for the advice Dr. Ev

We're very lucky to have you on here, we'd all be a mess without you!

how long after did he get sick after the chicken? If it was like 5hours then it might poss be from that. But did anyone else get sick for eatting the chicken? i hope he feels better soon

Yeah, it had to be 5 hours or less .... I don't know exactly what time he ate dinner b/c I wasn't with him ... but he was sick by midnight, so the math makes sense

Don't know if anyone else got sick, have to call his mom later to find out.

Re: My Poor Hubby!

Best thing is to just let it get out of his system, don't try to suppress any vomiting or diarrhea.
It's the body's natural way of getting rid of any toxins.

Just keep him hydrated with sips of water, gatorade, ginger ale, even coke which will soothe his stomach.

Hope he feels better soon. I've had food poisoning a couple of times and know exactly what he's going thru.
