Name Change

Name Change

This weekend I changed all of my store cards to my new address, and since I had them on the phone, figured I would change my name instead of calling twice. So that started it all....today I went to the bank and tomorrow DMV & SS.

All of a sudden I just got so sad over it, I never realized how much I enoyed my name...I feel like a little light inside me is slowly going out and I will be different!

Please say you felt the same way...

I definitely felt the same way. I still haven't gotten used to my married name. But it does get easier.

I felt a pang of regret about changing my last name, I've had it for 41 years.
But I am looking forward to enjoying my new name and my new life.

I definitely feel it too - you are not alone on this. It's so hard because you want to feel like you're starting a new life as a married person, but at the same time it's really hard to let go of what you've known your entire life.

Yea it is REALLY sad!!!!!! I really was going to push it off as long as I could...but I moved into his house last Saturday and had to get my bills switched over, then I thought I would just change my name too, surprisingly it was much easier than I anticipated.

I'm putting this off. I feel the same way I didn't think I'd feel this way but its hard!

Re: Name Change

It ISSSSS hard! I haven't changed my name yet and although I do want to share a name with DH, I reallllllllly don't want to lose my maiden name. I definitely don't want to hyphenate though, so I've been using my married name socially to get used to it for when I do the official switch (in the new year, when I get days off from work again).

At first I was excited but then I got sad about it. I loved my old last name, but the new one is starting to grow on me.

I'm not there yet! I haven't changed anything except my insurace card only because I had to put DH on it!

Re: Name Change

LOL! I posted the exact opposite thing a while back. I was so excited to change my name that I spent the whole first day back from my HM calling all of my providers to change it.
If I remember correctly, most of the people who responded said the same thing that you said. They either were sad to change it or hadn't bothered changing it yet. I am apparently the weird one

Re: Name Change

I was so so sad to change my name. I had no intentions to. But as a compromise with DH I agreed to. We were sitting in the SS office and I tried getting out of it. But it means a lot to DH. I loved my italian name. It had so much family meaning to me. And if you googled my old name, a lot of stuff popped up from work. Now, I feel like I lost all of that and I really don't like DHs last name. But, I will say that when I talk to someone on the phone and they say 'okay Mrs. XXXX' it does feel kind of good.

Re: Name Change

This is why I hyphenated. I'm getting grief for the hyphen all around, but I don't care. There was no way I could get rid of my last name completely!

I was thinking of doing that, but I heard that it could be a problem for tax time.

Re: Name Change

Well it helps that I am not alone...except for litbalarina!

Lets have a funeral for our Maiden names.

My last name was a good strong name with a lovely Italian sound. It flowed nicely, looked good on paper, and never gave me a cramp in my hand when I had to write it. It was easy to spell and easy to say. I was proud to have you for the last 30 years.

I shall miss you terribly.....Salice.........you were the best last name EVER!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
