Name Change Deadline RE: Voter Registration????

OK, so this election is WAY too important for me to not vote, so I have some concerns.

I am currently registered under my maiden name. Do I have a deadline to get my name changed? Should I just wait until after the election to officially and legally change my name? If I change my name on my Driver's license and not on SS, or vice versa, will there be a problem? If I change my name but haven't gotten my new license yet, will there be a problem? I am not leaving anything to chance here, so does anyone know the answer, or have an idea of who I can ask?

There's a box on the form for your license that they will notify & change your voter registration ...

Voter registration must be postmarked by October 8th this year in NY. If you go now to the DMV, you should have your new license in time, and you can register to vote in your new name there.
