need advice- how to update resume with new last name?

I want to start sending my resume out for new jobs but I am stuck. At my current job, I didn't change my last name because it would be too confusing. But I am chaning it legally and want to use it at a new job. Do I put my new last name on my resume? If so, do I indicate what my old last name was so that they can do reference checks? Especially since my degrees are in my old last name. Thanks for the advice!

Re: need advice- how to update resume with new last name?

I didn't change my name at work as far as what people call me but I did change it with HR and Payroll for basically banking reasons and to match ssn. But if anyone calls my office and asks for me by my married name - they say there is no one ther eby that name - no one knows my by that except a select few in the payroll dept.

On my resume and job apps, I always use my new last name because if I get a new job I would be going by my married name. I didn't think about reference checks- but I guess when you fill out apps - you can put your maiden name in parens or sonething or mention it if they do decide to check references.

Change it on the resume and if it gets to the point where they ask you for references, make sure you tell them you were known by your maiden name. Not a big deal.
