Need Help! Fast!

I also posted at LIF.

Here's the scenario:

My MOHs family is having a brunch for her today, as her 1st child is due 2/14/11. She is Jewish, and she explained to me it is 'bad luck' to have baby gifts in the house before the birth of the baby.

I bought a little something because I don't know what to do... can I give it to her at her brunch or should I wait until after the baby is born? I don't want to show up at an event honoring her empty-handed, but I don't want to go against her religion either. Please help!

Re: Need Help! Fast!

I would save it for when she has the baby and just give her a card and a gift certificate??

Re: Need Help! Fast!

I'm confused b/c we do believe it is bad luck to have a baby shower, have furniture delivered, etc. But the fact that she is having a celebratory brunch makes me think she wants presents? Some people leave all their gifts and supplies somewhere else, like a parents house, so its not technically in the house.

I'd personally bring the gift, see if others are bringing too, and maybe make a joke that you can store it for her until she gives birth. She may say that someone else is taking care of that for her.

I would do the exact same thing.

Re: Need Help! Fast!

I would bring the gift also...I'd feel funny too, unless the invite specifically stated 'no gifts till after the baby is born' or something like that...maybe the host of the brunch is going to keep everything at her house till the baby is born

Re: Need Help! Fast!

Thanks all, others brought gifts and she opened them... she will be storing them with her MIL until after the baby is born!
