Need party location

I want to throw a surprise 30th bday party for my twin brothers in a couple of months. I don't have much money and there would be around 50 people at least. Do you think it's better to rent out somewhere and cater food or do it per person? I worry about the price of alcohol

Does anyone know any places I can look at? It can be the city or LI but I think i would get a better deal on LI.

or do you want something completely different. Just asking bc for dh's 30th i didnt want catering hall/restaurant so i looked at other types of locations.

For catering halls they can add price of alcohol to the price per person.

thats good then bc i went through H E L L to find a place since i didnt want a catering hall lol.

You can rent a place and bring in your own food/ alcohol, i do think it can be cheaper this way.

What are they like, are they more party type ppl who like dancing and drinking alot and same with their friends?

I am doing dh's party at a private party room at a lounge in the city. The private room is upstairs and we have it all to ourselves. I am also gonna hire a burlesque dancer to perform through the place im having it at. I had the choice of doing cash bar and having the guests pay but i would have to guarantee them that my guests spend $1400 at the bar, or else i would be responsible for the rest BUT i decided to pay for all of it myself so i am gonna pay the bar guarantee myself and then that night i can decide if i want to pay just the $1400 for guests or pay even more towards the bar, its up to me.

And with bars the way it works is you only pay the bar guarantee which is anywhere from $1000-1500 and its up to you how much of the bar guarantee you pay. You can pay for all of it, or put a limit and then have your guests pay for the rest.

if you dont want a bar then how about renting out a KOC

also just not sure what to suggest bc dont know what you have in mind. Is this going to be a big family thing so more toned down, or mostly their friends and maybe just some close family if they want to attend but more of a party atmosphere. Do you prefer a sit down dinner.

If its mostly friends then i would stick more to a bar/lounge type place, more of a fun young atmosphere.

most bars in the city you can do it for an ok price, unless they make you do bottle service which is $600 for 2 bottles so for that many ppl can add up but if you can get hooked up and get some bottles comped its good. But then not everybody drinks grey goose so would depend whether or not you will pay for the other drinks ppl purchase. But with this scenario you decide how much you want to pay for the drinks. My friend even did this 2 weeks ago and got a table at a lounge and in order to get a table its 2 bottle minimum so thats $600 then for the rest of the drinks she told them she will pay x amount and once it gets to that to let her know, the waitress let her know and after that everybody paid for their own drinks.

try the nutty irishman in bay shore, croxley's alehouse, and off key tiki (patchogue).. they all had reasonable rates and private rooms/areas.. also diff packages as far as open bar/beer wine soda/ no alch...etc..

Another idea is Maccari vineyards ... you can rent a private room overlookin the vineyard for like 250 an hr if you do it on a sun afternoon and then just bring food in and drink their wine (olio in Commack does nice catering for not too much $$)

You can try any restaurant witha private room.

I really enjoyed Snapper Inn. It's a restaurant but they also have group packages. It's where me shower was and I loved it. I can't wait to go back.
