Newlyweds-Did you invite the priest to your wedding?

My step-sister and I think that you are supposed to invite the priest marrying FH and I to the rehearsal and reception. My mother can't remember what she did when she got married but doesn't think the priest always gets invited to the reception. We aren't very close the the priest or the church, to be honest. What is proper? What did you do? Thanks for all your help ladies! As my wedding date gets closer I realize all the things I don't quite have the answers to!

I didn't invite the deacon who performed our ceremony.

I did invite him to the RD and wedding. Not only did he not attend, he didnt even RSVP!!

We invited him to RD and wedding because he is a friend of the family.

we invited our Pastor and her husband but they did not attend. Its her policy not ot attend any wedding because that would mean they would have to attend all of them. We invited them out of curtesy but I knew they wouldnt come.

We invited our Reverend & her Hubby-Her hubby was out of town that weekend(she stayed home to marry us) So I invited her Daughter-in-law. They are patients of mine so they sat with my 40 co-workers.

My family has known the priest who married us for many years, so of course we invited him to the RD and wedding. He was unable to attend the RD b/c of a church obligation. But he couldn't attend the reception b/c he was ill that day (he even had a horrible coughing fit at the end of the ceremony - right as he was pronouncing us husband and wife!)

We asked the priest in person if he would like to attend. His response was that he was grateful for the invite but feels uncomfortable going because he often does not know anyone. I thought that was understandable but it was still noce to invite him.

Nope..didn't even think about it. Not very close to the church and the priest who I dealt with thru all my planning told me the night of my RD that he wasn't performing my ceremony..someone else asked him from another parish so he did theirs instead. Wound up I got the paster who was great but the whole situation was kind of annoying.

I sent out invites to the priest, rabbi and the photog. REad it somewhere that not only is this a nice gesture...but it reminds them where they need to be on your wedding day!

We invited him as a courtesy and he did not attend, nor RSVP, which didn't bother us at all...I agree with the above poster who said they couldn't possibly attend every one.

I sent an invite but he never RSVPd or attended. You are supposed to invite the person who officates your ceremony.

It depends on your relationship. I invited my pastor because we are close to him. It was also very important to us that he be there to say the blessing at the toast.

Anyway I had a good time even though our pastor was there. Him and his wife were dancing up a storm and had a great time. I even have a pic of him doing the YMCA. Like I said it depends on your relationship.

Im glad to see that my priest wasnt the only one who didnt have the courtesy of sending back an RSVP. What is that all about? Not only was it self addressed and stamped - but I know the man has a personal secretary who would have filled it out and mailed it for him if he were to ask.

I didn't invite the priest because I didn't even know which priest would actually be marrying us til the day of the wedding
