would you be okay with getting pregnant? (If you are not currently TTC and it just happened?) I am not in this situation, but DH and I were talking about the whole 'what if'... This happened to friends of ours who were not planning on a baby anytime soon. They were shocked at first, but now are so happy! It seems like it was meant to be. How would you all take it?

Re: Now that you are married...
DH and I would be happy. We really aren't ready for a baby, (live in an apt., need more money) but I know we would definitly be happy. DH would have had a baby a while ago if it was onlyup to him

I think we'd be happy, though very overwhelmed by it. We'd have to change our lives completely and I don't know how happy that would make either of us. Thankfully, it will take a whole lot to get us PG, so no worries for now

Re: Now that you are married...
I would be pretty upset if I became PG right now. We don't plan on having kids for a few years. We didn't live together before marriage, and we're still getting used to married life. We want to spend time together as husband and wife before adding children into the equation. I am still finishing school, and have no income, so there are also financial reasons that it is not a good time for us to have kids.
That said, I LOVE children and am looking forward to being a parent. I wish I was at the right stage of my life to have kids, b/c the maternal instinct is there.

Re: Now that you are married...
Honestly, I would be scared, b/c if I wasn't TTC, I wouldn't have read up enough on it, I would be prepared & If I didnt'knwo right away, I'd be concerned that I drankl to much caffeine & alcholo in the early weeks. I Think after that I would be happy, bc although I don't want to have children right now, I would take it is a sign. Maybe it was meant to be at that time, b/c if it wasnt' I'd never be ready, or when I was redy I woudln't be able to.
I have concerns about being able to conceive in the future anyway, so I think if it was an accident , I'd be ok with it, once I got over the initial fear, but do want to be a SAHM, b& not live in a 1 bedroom rental, so there would be some stress there.
ETA- we did disucss this breifly when DH moved in afew months we our wedding & agreed about how qwe felt about it.

Re: Now that you are married...
I would be equally thrilled and terrified.
I would love to have a baby...and think we are ready.....but since we're not planning on it, it might be difficult to handle money and space-wise!

Re: Now that you are married...
I think I would be scared. We aren't ready...we live in a 1 bedroom apartment and do not have enough money to support a child. But, that would be my only concern. I know we will love and accept a child at any point....but financially it would be really tough.

Just a personal question for those of you who said you would not be happy because you plan to wait a while - how old are you? I only ask because right now I am sort of in the situation of not thinking this is the best time but, then I worry that I am going to be too old when it is the right time. I think if there are others out there that are my age and waiting it will make me feel better.
Oh, and, I'm 27 1/2.

I'll be 27 in July, and want to wait until 32 to have my first. I'll be 29 when I finish my doctorate, which I definitely want to do before TTC. My mom had my brother at 31 and me at 34, and was so happy she waited. They traveled, went on vacation with friends, spent $ they didn't have once we came along, and my dad was able to finish his doctorate without taking out loans.

I will be 31 in July and we have been trying since we got married in October '04. I didn't want to wait because of my age. If I was in my 20's still I would wait but I am not. Also sometimes things don't always work out as planned. I was hoping to be pregnant already and that has not happened yet. This is just how I feel and me and DH discussed this before we got married. We waited a long time to get married because DH was in medical school. We were together for 13 years before getting married so we know each other well. We did not live together and married life is an adjustment but on a whole we know each other well and want to proceed to parenthood

I'll be 28 in August and we are no where near ready. Maybe after I turn 30? We both brought a lot of debit into our marriage and neither one of us is emotionally ready to handle it. That said if it happens you deal but we would not be initially happy!

I'm sure I'll get flamed from someone
No flames from me either! If I was younger, I would feel the same way. Even right now, I would happy but not be overjoyed. Marriage was a big adjustment and adding a baby to it, would have made it even harder. DH I know would not be happy.
