NWQOTD..Sunday 9/19 and NEW NWOTW!!!!!!!

Happy Father's Day to the DH's out there

Also - Not sure what 2011 ladies have or have not been the NWOTW buuuuut I am selecting Lindsay, AudioLoveStory

Anyway, for today's question: With today being a holiday... How did you and DH divide up family time for holiday's? Was it an issue? Do you do just 1 big gathering with everyone??

Re: NWQOTD..Sunday 9/19 and NEW NWOTW!!!!!!!

this is always fun....lol NOT!!!

I have had many holiday traditions prior to having DH in my life so I tried to keep as many as I could. :) Thanksgiving we alternate each year whose family we go to dinner and whose family we go to dessert. Easter the same thing. But Christmas eve was always spent at my Grammy's since I was born so that will never change (sadly grammy passed away last year but we still did the family christmas eve) Christmas morning with my mom siblings and nieces and christmas afternoon/evening with his family. Mothers day we do our rounds and fathers day is usually at his parents since my dad passed when i was 12. I am actually going to the cemetery in a little bit to post our wedding pic on his niche. :)

Congrats Lindsay on NWOTW! and Good Job Eloise on the questions!!!

Re: NWQOTD..Sunday 9/19 and NEW NWOTW!!!!!!!

I'm quite lucky - Each of our parent's houses are less than 10 minutes away. We also have small immediate families so we've combined for most holidays. Only holiday we have to split is Christmas . We go to my parents for dinner then his for dessert.

Re: NWQOTD..Sunday 9/19 and NEW NWOTW!!!!!!!

we usually spend Thanksgiving with my family.
Christmas Eve with his as they do the big italian fest.
Christmas morning we have spent at his parents we've lived together for 3 years and have only had 1 christmas morning where we woke up here usually we sleep at his parents this year we are waking up here and I am making breakfast for us and whatever relatives want to come to us
Christmas Day-dinner with my family and i'm sure we'll end up at his parents at some point
Easter-dinner with his family since mine gets us on thanksgiving
Mother's day we make the rounds as well as Fathers day
this year his dad is at their house on Fire Island and we didn't feel like traveling again since we just got home from our HM so DH is currently playing golf with my dad and then we'll go to diner with them. we'll see his dad for dinner this week

Yay!!!! I've never been anything of the week! LOL

DH and I usually have one big family gathering. Usually his mom hosts and everyone is invited.

Re: NWQOTD..Sunday 9/19 and NEW NWOTW!!!!!!!

Luckily DH & I live within 8 minutes of everyone so we usually start with my mom and then go to his parents. Never had a problem in 9+ years so I think we are good

Re: NWQOTD..Sunday 9/19 and NEW NWOTW!!!!!!!

With this particular holiday we don't have an issue (my father passed when I was 12) we spend it with his father.

But for all the holidays, it isn't easy and will get harder after we have children.

My family is in Jersey & Staten Island and all his family is right here.

This year we went to my mom in Jersey for mothers day but stayed with his family for Easter

Once we have a house (which hopefully is SOON) we are going to rotate the holidays, 1 here, 1 there and 1 we host and invite both sides, etc. Stinks, but it's what we have to do.

Re: NWQOTD..Sunday 9/19 and NEW NWOTW!!!!!!!

Most holidays are hosted at our house and anyone who wants to come can but his parents rarely make the trip. We'll go to my parent's place Christmas Day and went to Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving one year and DC for Easter but DH and I both hate to travel on the holidays especially having Darwin. It's tough getting someone to watch him during the holidays.
