I think it was in poor taste. How many different ideas can we come up with what the cartoonist means?
honestly i can only think of one
I can think of a few and they are all in poor taste.
personally i think this cartoon is awful, i don't read the post, i read newsday (newsrag) but if i did buy this paper on a regular basis i would totally stop giving them a dime of my money

What I find worse is the statement that they issued yesterday
'The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington's efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist.'
That is really what disgusted me, really take responsibility for your freaking actions.

while i do think the cartoon was in poor taste they still can print whatever they want..... my opinion is that it was risky and in poor taste but if i liked that newspaper i probably would still keep reading it - people say and do things that i don't like all the time - and while i may not agree with what the artist was trying to say if i liked the paper i dont think 1 political cartoon that offended me would stop me from buying the entire paper.....but i dont buy newspapers or read them so it doesnt really matter to me as far as that goes....but i dont think i would stop buying the paper over it....
i heard the post is weird though - with stuff like that - is that true? i dont read it so i have no idea what their newspaper is like....

Yeah the Post is very wreckless to say the least. They will say what the average person is thinking but is scared to print. Their headlines are stuff that makes you be like and people like me . Its sad but besides news it really is entertaining.

i read a few different things about this cartoon - that the chimp isnt supposed to be portraying the president b/c he didn't write the bill or something to that effect - that its supposed to represent the house or something like that..
that may be true... but lets face it... what do you think that MOST people thought of after reading the cartoon?!
I agree with Nicole and you. It just makes it even more in poor taste no matter which way you look at it.

Although I may not agree with their opinion, I will defend their right to express it. First amendment!

ohh okay....well maybe if i was constantly offended while reading their paper then i probably wouldn't read it anymore - but if it was like a 1 time thing i wouldn't boycott the paper - like mima said its their right to print it and i don't have to agree with it....

While I don't understand what the heck they were trying to get at - I don't think it was intentionally offensive. Just a stupid, not funny, not insightful political cartoon.
It was like 'hey lets take two news stories and put them in the same cartoon - we are clever.'
you really dont know what they were trying to get at????
okay looking it over i can see different interpretations. of course everyone is going to jump to the racist one right? do you think if that is the only interpretation he would even have printed it?
sometimes if we see something at first that is ALL we can see - everything else is blocked out
poltical cartoons, even stupid ones, can have many interpretations - its the nature of the genre

I wouldnt say Im constantly offended...They didnt support Obama and I did so I didnt like that....but usually they are offensive to criminals, prositutes (Spitzer's chick) etc...So it isnt like I have any sympathy for these people anyway I just like their page six...honestly thats all I read..I would never take NEWS from there to be truth..I read the NY Times for the news, pOST is like US weekly to me, entertaining and DH loves the sports so it works for us

This is true to an extent but they risk the chance of advertisers pulling out which is where they make their money.

Tilde I completely agree with you on this.
However it is very unfortunate and sad that they put that in the paper since that woman was just attacked by the Chimp and the owner of the Chimp who has to deal with her pet almost killing her best friend.
but then again...it is their right to print it like it or not unfortunately.

I agree. They really went too far with this one...but I also think they know the saying 'any publicity is good publiicty' and the fact we are talking about it even in a negative way is advertising for them.

Re: NY Post Cartoon
I think this is in poor taste yes, but i have to admit, i didnt initially look at it and take it as something offensive towards our president. In fact, i dont think alot of people had that reaction until it was being discussed by the media. That being said, I dont think it should have been published becuase in no way is the state of our economy a joke, nor is the chimpanzee attack, and i cant even imagine how people think this is funny regardless of the writers intended interpretation.
