OK here is the scoop!

Original post by swags1016

Before you read this please understand this is in NO WAY a criticism of the NEWLYWED board. This is normally the drama free board and I want to keep that way!!! If you were NOT on last night PLEASE DO NOT take offense!!!

There are several issues here so please bare with me.

THANK YOU WENDY FOR EXPLAINING IT!

Issue #1

OK this is what is going on! Last night I posted a thread about concerns that I am having about my marriage. I was very upset and I had been crying for hours about it, I will explain it in a minute. I watched the view and when it hit 20 and no one had responded I was hurt. But yet when there is drama, and I was not connected to this drama in any way shape or form everyone is more concerned about that than a member of our community that is in pain. That hurt. Should I have posted it on the NWR for more of response, maybe but this was a newlywed issue and this is where it belonged.

Now I DO NOT expect everyone to be on here as much as I have been on here lately. In fact I am jealous of you if you are not on here often because that means that you are out enjoying married life! That is great and believe me, I wish I had the same. I linked to a thread that has been deleted. I will not go into the thread because as I said I was not apart of it. What I said on this thread is this:

This website is a place for people to go to talk about their weddings, married life and having children. We are supposed to be here to help and support one another. I try to do that. (Maybe some might disagree with me but I think I try to help people on here) But when there is drama on here, and this was really STUPID drama everyone focuses that and loses sight that someone else maybe going through a real issue and not some stupid misinterpretation of writings! (I think I said this much better last night but I am at a loss) I basically said that there are some on here that need to get their priorities in order!

I feel like I have gone out of my way to help MANY on this site and I was ignored last night. I watched people post around my thread and that hurt. I watched the view count go up and nothing be said to help me. I needed advise. Maybe it truly is that only Karen and some of the NYP/NYFD wives can understand I don’t know but I needed comfort.

Issue #2

Due to a recent poster joining our community I have come to realize that I have posted too much personal information about myself and if you have noticed that things were being deleted, that is why. I forget about lurkers on here. I am an idiot because I am too trusting and naive. I think that I have ‘friends’ on here and forget about the LURKERS on here. So it has started to bother me.

Issue #3

The problem that caused the post, I have married for a month as of today. We have been home from our honeymoon for exactly 14 days and I would say of those 14 I have been alone for 10 of them. DH has been forced to work OT every night and I have had it. I am depressed and alone! I have 5 days left before I start back on my work schedule and I would have liked to be able to spend time with my husband. But I am constantly alone. He cannot refuse this OT it is mandatory in his company! It is not the norm but it seems to be becoming that way.

I have a cat! She is not a snuggler. As I also had stated I am one of my only friends that does not have children so they cannot just come to me at a drop of a hat. That is part of growing up and I COMPLETELY understand that! But as I said to someone do you know what it is like to let’s say come home at 5pm and have no one to talk to until the next morning, to not here another voice until then? It is horrible and depressing. I am married I am not supposed to feel like I live on my own! It is a loneliness that few will understand. It is not like he is away and coming back soon it could always be like this! Also- he cannot get another job at this point and if he says anything about the hours they are revengeful enough to put him on a WORSE shift. The last time he spoke up about wanting an American Flag to be hung up they put him on the worst shift for 2 weeks immediately after!

That is basically what is going on! I was hurt and still am that 150 something people viewed this thread and only 5 chose to respond! Lurkers and all! That is why I am hurt. It is in NO WAY a criticism to the people who were not on, but to the ones that bypassed a person obviously in need.

I am not saying I am gone forever just that I need to take a break, like many others on here because of the BS!!! So if you are thinking about causing drama I beg you to rethink what this site is here for and what you do to others on here!

Thank you for reading this and good luck to you all!

Sorry this is soooooo long

I was not on last night but I am so sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the board and I would be upset too if I were in your shoes. You should have gotten some comfort and support from the boards. A couple of times I see posts about the silliest things that get so many replies. I hope things work for you...hugs to you...

Re: OK here is the scoop!

I am so sorry. I wasn't on last night but I know exactly what you are going through. My DH's schedule changed the day we got back from our honeymoon. Before we got married he worked 7-3 and the weekends off...
As soon as we got back it was a different schedule every week. Sometimes he works 7-3..other times it is 11pm-7am, 3-11, 1-9 no weekends off most of the time. .. Sometimes he gets a Tuesday and Wed off (that really doesn't help me since I work in the city with normal business hours and weekends off.) I was without my new husband in our bed for a few nights in a row. His company will take away a weekend day off without hardly any notice.... Oh, and we didn't have our TV or computer hookup up and I was home by myself. I would cry...
His schedule hasn't gotten much better..BUT I am learning how to deal with it.
My only advice is try to try to find some activity that can keep you busy out of the house while he is working and make the most of the time you have together... that is how I am dealing or otherwise I will shoot myself!

Jaime:

I don't pop in nearly as much as I used to and I'm very surpised to come on and see all of this today. I'm soo sorry that people find entertainment in petty crap then lending a hand to help out a regular poster.

Remember, though, the views on the drama posts are generally the idiots that start them going back to see what's been added. Still it doesn't excuse the fact that no one had posted a response to your thread.

I know where you are - I spent alot of lonely nights when we were first married and sadly enough, it wasn't due to work obligations. I don't think it's going to make a bit of difference when you go back to work because as we all know, the night is the loneliest. Now the tables are sort of turned as I'm the busy one, but it's not like I intentionally try to live a 26 hour day.

Don't let the nonsense that goes on around here stress you out - remember there are a few of us on here that are genuine and really do care about you and your feelings. Take time for yourself - and heck, if you're bored in the evenings, come hang by me. I need a gym partner now that Michelle is going through a rough time personally (although I'm hoping she feels better soon )

I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this so soon after being married. Hopefully the situation will improve soon.

I can totally relate to coming home to an empty house. Before we got our dog (and even sometimes now) there were many nights when I would come home while Roland was on a trip and just cry. It's just so hard to be alone sometimes when all you want to do is be with the one you love.

I wish you and your new husband all the best.

Jaime,

Sorry that you feel this way and I hope you don't stay away for too long.

I was on last night briefly but didn't read your post. Sorry about that. You shouldn't think that if people don't answer or reply to you that they don't care. I'm sure every woman on here cares but sometimes people just don't know what to say.

Good luck to you and I hope everything turns out ok.

I am so sorry for what you are going through. I do hope your husband's work situation improves so that the two of you can get some quality time together.

I think that we can all learn from this. Even if we don't know what to say, we can send a hug ' ' to someone in need.

Re: OK here is the scoop!

My DH works long hours. I'm a teacher and I'm usually home after school and I come home to an empty house. He gets home about 9:30- thats without overtime. Although it gets lonely and it s*cks making dinner for 1, we try to make the best of things. The weekend are ours- unless we have a family obligation. We try to aim for at least 2 dinners together a week. But even that is difficult sometimes. We just bought a house. I spent the last month painting, spackling, sanding, scrubbing, moving and working like a dog. He would come to the house to help on weekends but I couldn't help but wish he were doing this with me. I even mentioned this to his mother (big mistake) and she jumped down my throat and told me that he has to work and I had the summer off. Yes, I knew that but I couldn't help but think that this was the house we were supposed to work on together....
Its not easy and he can't switch his job- but we do try to make the best of our time together. I'm a very independent person and even I get lonely.
I'm sorry I wasn't online last night- DH came home an hour early- sick as a dog.

Hi Jaime! I am so sorry that you feel this way! I can totally understand how lonely you must be. I am a 'fishing widow'{ from now thru December. You shouldn't feel this way so soon after your wedding. Take comfort in the fact that it is not Frankie's choice. We need to have more gtg's and walking groups. I am sure that you are not alone.

Feel better and know that here on LIW you are loved!

Jamie

Was this different than before you were married? or has this seperation never happened? Is there any forseeable end to the ot in the future and does he soon have a possibility of a better schedule. I am so sorry you are going through this, but this hopefully is only a temporary cloud over your head. I would take a deep breath in the meantime and start hanging out with friends, help plan a friends wedding, hit the gym, go shopping, yoga or anything. This is so normal. Up until last month, you were spending all your free time planning a wedding and enjoying the details (every bride's right). Now, there is little to do everynight- without DH there. My best to you and although I don't know you personally,

Re: OK here is the scoop!

First, I just want to send you a big. I don't know which thread you are referring to (from last night), but I apologize if I overlooked it. I don't remember a subject line that seemed urgent or pressing, otherwise I'm sure I would've tried to help.

Second, I totally understand your need for a break - the boards can be ridiculous sometimes - and I've taken my own leave of absense at times when I needed to. But, I think that maybe you are being super sensitive b/c of your home life. Unless I missed something completely - did someone say something malicious to you? Or are you just sore that more people did not write a response to your post?

Lastly, is your husband bound by a contract to his current job? If not, than I don't understand why he simply cannot start looking for a different situation. I totally understand the market being tight b/c I am job hunting too, and I am not having too much success. But, if he's not bound by a contract, than he should still be able to look for a job, right? Again, perhaps I don't have enough info into all that's involved here. I am so sorry that you are not enjoying your newly-married life. I cannot imagine how that feels, but I am sure it's painful. I don't know what to say, b/c I imagine that words aren't much comfort to you....hopefully this difficult time will pass and you and your DH can be together.

I wish you strength and happiness....married life isn't always as happy as the wedding day, but the rewards are worth the struggles. All the best to you!

Re: OK here is the scoop!

Swags, Im sorry for your situation right now and it seems like you really shouls speak to someone. Do you have any really close friends, or maybe your mom.

I can see being annoyed at the boards, but it seems to me that the hostility is really bad because you are deeply hurting and not so much the boards.

Sweetie, you shouldnt feel alone, you need some support. Sorry this period of your life is difficult

to you!

Don't go anywhere - we need more people like you to keep the boards sane. And we can keep you company. Do you have any instant messenger programs? I'm often on yahoo or aol IM, even when I'm not on LIW.

I'm sorry you're feeling lonely. Is this likely to be an ongoing schedule for DH or is it just an exceptional time?

As for the boards, keep in mind that sometimes people just don't know what to say. Not a good excuse, but try not to take it too personally. Its may not mean 20 people ignored you. Rather a few people keep re-reading the post wondering what they could say to make you feel better.

Jamie, I wasn't on last night and I just read your posts -

You know there will always be people here for you, give us day posters a chance!

As for people not responding, I don't know. Maybe they didn't know what to say?

BTW, for all still brides-to-be, you can post here, Shamma just asked that you don't repeat posts from the BHB board or ask planning questions on the newlywed board. That's all Shamma asked for. No one *doesn't* want you to post here, just no planning questions. So if you saw Swags post and were afraid to respond, please respond! Send her a hug or two!

Re: OK here is the scoop!

First, I didn't read all of the replies, and I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but we seem to have more than double the lurkers than we do posters, and if your post was viewed so many times, it's possible it was by lurkers and not those who add to the community

Second, I'm sorry you are going through the he// of OT. I can surely sympathize, as September 11th happened 2 months after I got married, and 2 weeks after I moved into my new home, with only a bed, a radio and a card table, leaving me completely alone from 6pm - 6 am (the hours I don't work) for more weeks than I care to count.

It s u c k s, and that is a fact, but it's not going to change. You need to find things to stay occupied with, and no, that's not easy either. I also have very busy friends who have children and DH's who are home to spend time with them. I gave up on seeking out their companionship whenever I was lonely. I know they love me, but they have lives to live too! They check in with me frequently, but they aren't available all the time... another thing I had a hard time adjusting to, but I did it and you will too.

I can give you a list a million miles long of things you can do to fill the lonely hours, but you can do that by yourself. You know what you enjoy! What you need to do is remember that when you DO see your DH, the times are more special, more intense, and more full of emotion than if you saw him 24/7. It's HARD... but you can and will do it. Just be strong and give yourself time to adjust.

And when you feel you can't take it anymore, read this... It always helps me...

A cop's wife is a woman who is married to a man who is 'married' to his job, his partner and his badge. A cop's wife can usually be found cooking breakfast at midnight, picking up his uniforms at the cleaners and spending nights alone.

A cop's wife must be a good listener, not questioning him. She must be understanding when he goes out for a beer with his buddies, doesn't feel like taking her to the movies, or has an exam to study for.

A cop's wife must live with shift work, lonely holidays, bad jokes, ulcers and alcohol, bulletproof vests and fixed incomes. She is used to words like rape, robbery, assault and child abuse. She is familiar with night school, stakeouts, overtime and being on her own.

Most women are not born or raised to be a cop's wife; it is something that they have chosen to do. Some can and others cannot. She will spend each day learning, listening to and loving a man that few people respect and most others often hate.

A cop's wife makes beds, breakfasts and love to a man who spends more time with junkies, hookers, informants, pimps and partners than he does with her. She attends dinners, meetings and sometimes funerals.

A cop's wife watches the man she loves grow old before his time, watches him become cold and unfeeling, but she will remain his friend, wife and lover. She will always be these things to him, but she also knows that he will always be first, A Cop.

When a cop's wife kisses him as he leaves for work, she will make a silent
wish that he will return to her. And every time there is a knock at the door,
she will pray that it is not the Chief of Police and her husband's partner
coming to say kind things about her husband, how brave he was, how dedicated he was.

Being a cop's wife means lots of trust, love and worry, but when he says 'I
love you', it makes it all worthwhile.

Now, chin up, and be the proud, strong, PD wife that you are, and remember that you have many 'sisters' who 'get it' and care!

I wish you had given the 'day only' posters a chance to show our concern.

Marriage is hard. Marriage alone and lonely is much harder. My dad had a job that kept my mom alone 5 nights a week. For 8 years. Its not easy...especially in the beginning. She found things to occupy her. Book clubs, knitting, cooking, organizing the home, she even took some night classes in literature. Reach out to others as well...always....

Sorry I wasn't there. I would have tried to help when you were down.

And aside from some BS, this place is filled with great people that really want to help you. I've made some great friends on here and it seemed like, at the GTG, you did too.
I really hope you don't leave ... we would miss you to much!
