One Car on LI?

Is anyone here a 'one car' family? DH recently sold his car and I honestly have no idea how we're going to survive with just one car ...

right now, it's ok because he's only working part time (mostly nights or weekends) so we can both use the one car ... but is it really possible to have one car if both of us have full time jobs (neither of which are in the city)?

How do you do it?

Re: One Car on LI?

grew up in a 1 car fam, so i will offer the little i know

if one person can take public transport/car pool, it can def work.

if not, can you sort your schedules out where one person starts/leaves earlier and pick the other up on the way home?

I suppose that's the only way ... we may need a second car soon (DH sold his car cause it was a POS, not because he doesn't want a car)

Re: One Car on LI?

If one doesn't work in the city, it would be hard. Do you work close by so you could carpool?

We live with one car but Dino works in the city so take the train every day. Weekends we are mostly together. So it works fine.

Yeah - weekends are the easy part ... it's just work-days that seem impossible

Re: One Car on LI?

Is their a LIRR branch closest to your home and work the same?

For example, I live in RVC but if I worked in Babylon I'd be able to take the LIRR East and find someone at work to get me from the train.

Re: One Car on LI?

Although we have 3 cars, and I work on Long Island and DH works in the Bronx, we could work it out where we would have only 1 car. The only thing is that DH works two jobs in the Bronx and he would need to get a ride from a co-worker from one to the other. Of course i would be the one to have the car most of the time.

Re: One Car on LI?

could never work for us. Even though I work in the city, I go in and come home earlier than DH. Plus I like to be able to pick up and go when I need to. So well always be a 2 car family.
