ONLY 4 no shows....and some disappointing gifts

Only 4 no shows...not too bad! One was a death in a family. But...one family member who had her kids invited gave $160...
another family member who brought her 2 kids only gave $50 (supposedly she couldn't afford anything more)....but it was a little disappointing since I usually spent over $20 for their kids' b-days.

ETA: Please do not take it like I was expecting more.....it was just surprising, that's all. I understand financial difficulty for one of them, but the other one just got a new Audi from her husband.....I am greatful for everything we got...and I'm glad they came.

Re: ONLY 4 no shows....and some disappointing gifts

I understand. We had everyone show up and no stiffers but I was a little shocked too at how little some people gave. But I was also shocked at how much others gave so it balanced out!!

Re: ONLY 4 no shows....and some disappointing gifts

We had a family of four adults give $100. I know what you mean... it felt like the people who don't have money were the most generous... in some cases, I felt bad - like we should give them the money back.

Re: ONLY 4 no shows....and some disappointing gifts

believe me- i know how you feel- i posted a few weeks ago after my wedding. I had several 'no shows' and not even a phone call or card in the mail.. and they are fine- nothing dramatic happended. a few of my husbands friends gave us cards a few weeks later... overall people were very generous.. but we had a few people just not give anything.. i mean a card congratulating us would have been nice.

ex. my sister- she has no $$, has a baby, lives with the babys father but they hardly get along. I paid for EVERYTHING for her to be in the wedding party- and all I wanted from her was a card congratulating me on my happiness.. i have been there for her during her hard times... and she didnt even do that. nocard- i didnt expect a gift but a congratulations card would have meant something..

Re: ONLY 4 no shows....and some disappointing gifts

Shana, count your blessings - you only had 4 no shows and a couple of people gave less than you thought - that's not so bad at all! Some people have horror stories

we actually had only 6 no shows, which was great! A few people stiffed us, but we were still blessed and grateful for what we received. Some I know spitefully gave less and some gave so much more than we'd ever thought so it balanced out. That's how it is with weddings, everyone on here will probably tell you how they got stiffed. Don't hold it against people b/c if they did it intentionally it will come back to haunt them and if they did it b/c they honestly didn't have it, then it is what it is.

Also, I find that as expensive as weddings are getting there seems to be a huge stir when the gift is small or cheap (not saying you did), but so many brides these days have a high expectation of how much $$$ they feel they should get. However, with the economy the way it is and all the uncertainty going on in our world, I find people are more cost concious.

Re: ONLY 4 no shows....and some disappointing gifts

HA! I know, some of my best 'friends'...most of a whole table...not on present...but the fact that they did not get us even a card is a lot more fustrating to me. Its 10 months later and I am still equally fustrated!

Re: ONLY 4 no shows....and some disappointing gifts

We had two non gifters at ours. It is 1.5 yrs later - no gift, not even a card. I'm not holding my breath.

One of them was an out of town uncle on my DH side.. My DH's sister is getting married this yr- and this non gifter is invited to their wedding too. I already told my sister in law that if she gets a gift from him - I am taking half of it. Ha.

We got a check for $10.00 from DH's Great Aunt .LOL. (she's like 95 years old and still living in the 20's.)
I have to admit it was kinda cute...

Re: ONLY 4 no shows....and some disappointing gifts

I can relate. I had a family of five give me $75! And they certainly are not poor. I spent more than that on their child's communion gift! Also a friend of DH's said he forgot our card and he would mail it. It's now 8 months. I guess technically I have 4 more months to wait.
