Opinions on this letter (long)
My husband and I were very dissatisfied with our limo company, and when we spoke to them after the wedding, they promised to pay for the cleaning of my gown.....so i'm sending the owner of the company a letter explaining all of the problems we had....along with a copy of the bill from my gown cleaning, in the hopes that we'll get the money for the cleaning back.would you do me a favor and proofread the letter and let me know what you think of it.....
thanks!!
**********************************************
I am contacting you in reference to my dissatisfaction with the services provided by your company, *********, at my wedding on April 3, 2004.
Your company was recommended to us by our hall, the Watermill, in Smithtown. We contacted your company on February 18th and spoke with one of your salesmen regarding our transportation needs. We were looking for a classic car to drive us from our reception, after the wedding, to the hotel where we were staying that night. Your salesman seemed confident that your company would be able to provide us with the services we desired. After speaking with him, we signed the contract, also confident that you would be able to provide us with the serviced we desired. I have provided you with a copy of that contract.
On the day of our wedding, the weather was typical for that time of year, cloudy and overcast. Upon leaving the Watermill at the completion of our wedding celebration, a car from your company was waiting for us. It was a different car (Excalibur) than we had requested (Bentley), but I understand that older cars do not always perform well in bad weather conditions, as is also stated in your contract, so I was willing to accept the different car. I will tell you now that the only part of the service that my husband and I were satisfied with on the day of our wedding, was the fact that the car was on time.
Once we got into the car, we were surprised to find a large puddle on the floor where we were to be sitting. I didn’t notice this at first, and as a result, as I got into the car (on my own, without the driver’s help, might I add) the bottom of my wedding gown was dragged in that puddle. I have attached a copy of an email from the company that cleaned my gown indicating that some of those stains were not able to be removed when they cleaned it.
In addition to the puddle on the floor, there were several other aspects of the car that were unsatisfactory. There was no heat in the car and it was quite cold that day. None of the power in the car worked, the windows, the radio, the moon roof….nothing. While on our way to the hotel, the car stalled at least four times. At no point during the ride did the driver say anything to us to explain what was going on. The engine of the car was so loud that we couldn’t speak to each other, never mind ask the driver what was happening.
My husband and I are very understanding people, and we know that older cars can be unreliable in poor weather conditions. We were not upset that we did not get the car we requested in our contract. We initially were very grateful that you realized that the Bentley would not be the best choice considering the weather conditions and the car’s age, and sent an alternate car. However, once we realized that the car you sent was sub-standard, we were a little upset, and would have preferred you sent a car that would be able to make the fifteen minute drive with heat and power and without stalling.
Our final issue with your company’s service was the fact that the driver was taking us to the wrong hotel. I spoke with one of your employees the day before the wedding and confirmed the hotel we were staying at, as there are several in that area. He had the wrong hotel written down, so I corrected him, yet the driver was never given that information. As a result, my husband had to scream the correct directions to the driver over the sound of the engine.
Simply put, it was not the experience we were expecting from your company.
Two days after our wedding, we went to your office to express our dissatisfaction with our experience. When we spoke with one of your salesmen, he apologized for the inconveniences on our wedding day. When he heard there was a puddle on the floor of the car, he promised that your company would cover the cost to clean my gown. I have provided you with the bill from the company that cleaned my gown so you may do so.
He also offered us a ride to the airport for our honeymoon, which we declined, as we no longer trusted your company would be able to provide us with the services we needed. Finally, he offered us a $35 refund of the $210 we paid to your company. Personally, we were a little offended that our experience was only worth a $35 refund to your company. We declined that refund as well.
I have written you this letter to ensure that you are aware of the services we received from your company. I would hope you would take this information and use it to your advantage. I have also written to request the amount I paid to dry clean my gown, as the majority of the cleaning was due to the condition of the car that your company sent.
I appreciate you taking the time to read this letter. Should you have any questions regarding any of the information stated, please feel free to call me at the number provided.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lori P.......

Mention names of people you spoke to if you recall or wrote that down.....otherwise they'll deny the conversation!

I also agree with Shana...write down specific names when you can.
I added a *key* phrase for you in bold type...just in case you need to further pursue this, which I hope you do not.

That's Ok, as long as you have dates (which it seems you do) you are already ahead of the game.

2nd paragraph toward bottom:
change serviced to service
good letter. Even if you don't know the names of whom you spoke to, can you list the specific time that you were there and maybe a physical description?

Re: Opinions on this letter (long)
Very well written and informative to the reader. However, where you have
'However, once we realized that the car you sent was sub-standard, we were a little upset..'
I would either take out the 'little'. It sounds like it wasn't that big of a deal.
But other than that, I think it's a very good letter.
Good luck - hope they pay for your gown cleaning!
