Can I ask what the sword is for? Is there meaning behind it?

Sonia,What an amazing wedding, rich in culture. What about the pics from the Ny reception!!!
I am having a buddhist wedding and I can totally understand all the planning that must have went into pulling something like this off. Did you where a white dress for your Ny reception? I will be wearing a traditional dress for the ceremony and a white dress for the reception
Best of luck

It's called a 'kirpaan' and basically signifies that the person holding it will stand up for righteous acts and protect those around who need his/her help.

Re: Our CA & NY Wedding and Receptions, Vegas Wedding and Tahiti Honeymoon!
ok time for the actual wedding ceremony. the bride and groom walk 4 times around the holy scripture and different verse is sung in each one. they each represent different aspects of marriage and how we should treat one another.this is a harmonium and used in all the singing of our religious hymns

Re: Our CA & NY Wedding and Receptions, Vegas Wedding and Tahiti Honeymoon!
my first bite hehethe groom is supposed to give the bride's sisters/close friends rings. this is a picture of
my hubby looking through them.
my sister negotiating for money and rings. there's also the big tradition of stealing the
groom's shoes. the girls are supposed to take them and hide them. then the groom has to give
them money to get them back. but my brother in law was making it very tough!! he took 'em
and locked them in the car. they didn't have cars back in the day when this tradition was
invented!!
so my smart lovely cousin decided to just randomly steal men's shoes and lock 'em in the car. haha i didn't hear about this until later but it sounded really funny
later .. neways, they got their money - my sister and cousin got like $500 between the two
of them.
in the limo about to leave the Gurdwara to go take pictures in the park

Re: Our CA & NY Wedding and Receptions, Vegas Wedding and Tahiti Honeymoon!
time for more pics! (as if you're not sick of my mug already!)after the wedding and the pictures in the park was the Doli. this is the official ceremony where the bride leaves her house with her groom. it's extremely sad and i've cried so much watching other people's doli's. i ordered these cute little tissue packets from ebay that unfortunately no one got a pic of. neways i left everyone crying but surprisingly didn't cry at all!!! you'll see why..
our gorgeous house decorations.. we;re in the middle of the room
my mom and dad feeding us sweets
and thennnnnn my daddy decided to surprise us with a little gift. i had no idea.. people were shouting out their guesses. here's the series of pics leading up to that
everyone guessing
IT'S A CAR!!!
my parents gave us their lexus!! i bugged my dad a lot about how i wouldnt have a car out here and i'd be stuck at home (didnt have a job lined up). but he would always get mad and remind me of how much money was being spent on the wedding. so i stopped acting like a baby and dealt with it. so this was a HUGE SURPRISE!!
brb with more pics

OMG!! How gorgeous!!The woman who owns the place where I get my eyebrows threaded is Indian, as well as most of her clientelle and if you go on the weekends, you usually see brides there getting all made up and ready for their wedding.. it is UNREAL!! Between the henna and all the jewlerly and the gorgeous fabrics. I wish I had to go through all of that!!!
I love it!!
Thanks for sharing!!

Re: Our CA & NY Wedding and Receptions, Vegas Wedding and Tahiti Honeymoon!
more pics!ok this is me leaving for the limo from my house in the doli. normally the bride is placed in this wooden thing and her brothers carry it on their shoulders. that was too cheesy for me
when the bride leaves she throws rice behind her and she's not supposed to look back. it signifies that shes paying her parents back for raising her. i dont believe in any of this but i did it just for the helluvit for my parents.
i LOVE this picture .. it took me a while to figure out how the rice came out that way in the pic hehe.
my uncle drew a picture for the license plate of the lexus! it was so nice!
me and daddy
looks like im wiping a tear but i'm brushing off some rice haha
at the end your brothers push the car away to 'send you off'
afterwards i heard EVERYONE was bawling .. i cried SO much watching the video later and seeing everyone comfort my mom.
