Passport Renewal ?

Can we do this online? Do I still have to return my booklet? Do i have to do anything special to change my last name to my new married name?

you just reminded me I have to do this! I read that you have to mail it in with your old passport, new passport photo, and certifited marriage cert copy.

hm not sure. I purchased missnowmrs so i got the forms from there.

UGGGGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In my research, I just found out that in order to change your name on your passport, you need to obtain a certified copy of your marriage certificate - which in New York City, can only be obtained in person or by mail! SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The cost is also $35!!!!!!!
Obviously, I can't even submit my application until I have this back so who knows how long it will take the city to get this done via snail mail

Can you go to the City Clerk office early in the morning, they open early in downtown Manhattan?

no, they open at 8:30am and i have to be at work by 9am

its at least a 45 minute ride from the county clerks office to my office

do you not have your original? send the original with the paperwork, new pics & old passport - be sure to send it certified so you know it's received ... i had my new passport in under 10 days and the old passport and marriage certificate came back a day or two later ...

I have the original, but I wasn't sure if I should send it in because then I really wouldn't have one at all if something were to happen

Ahhh that sucks. Can you come in late one day? We got our marriage license there at 830, there was a small line but nothing crazy that early. I was at work by 915 and we work near to each other.

ugh i just applied for another certified copy for my bar license not thinking i would need one for my passport too

arghhh

they are only $10 in huntington but still a PITA

Do you ladies think it would be safe to just send in my original instead of getting a certified copy? I would send it with FedEx to get a tracking number.
I don't want to lose time with the city and then end up having to pay any expedited fees to get it done before our upcoming trips

Go to the Town of Hempstead town hall. I had to get a whole new passport because I had gotten my old one with my maiden name in 2006. Don't know when you are traveling but my new one is not coming until february. If you old one expired you need to apply for a whole new one. The name change form is only if you are changing you name within a year of getting your passport.

i had no issues when i sent mine ... if you think about it, you had to send a birth cert with the original application, right? ... i wouldn't worry ...
