Please answer my quesiton, newlyweds!
I posted on recipe board befor, But it's not really a recipe question so I am post here too!
I am planing on making 2 main cources for the dinner party I am hosting this saturday. My original plan was a grilled fish dish and beef stew for those who are not into seafood. BUT yesterday I was thinking: don't you need ot serve beef stew in a soup bowl? You can't really use regular dinner plate, right? So if people want to try both diches they will need to have two plates by their side, which could be inconvenient for them. Should I just make something else instead of the stew? I am confused!

Well beef stew is usually pretty thick.....I know when my mother makes it, she also makes egg noodles, we put the egg noodles on a plate and pour the beef stew over that!

Re: Please answer my quesiton, newlyweds!
is your beef stew a thick one or juicy? If its think, then you do not need the bowls but if its juicy, then you are going to need bowl and plates.Another question...is this a semi-formal dinner or a casual one? if its a semi-formal one then each person should have a bowl and a plate in front of them, if its cassual, then you can stack a few bowls next to the serving bowl with the stew and people can help themselves that way!
Hope that helps!!

I was thnking of making a lot of different salads, I feel like you don't need additinal heavy side dish with a hearty thing as beef stew. Is it how it's usually served, with noodles or rice?

If I put potatos in my stew, I do not serve it with rice or noodles, but if there are no potatos then I do.

I thought potatoes were in stew so you wouldn't need another starch.
I think a plate is fine for stew, the gravy should be thick enough that it won't run off the plate.

I only make the thick stew that you serve alone (not over rice or noodles) with potatoes in it. It is very think and could probably work on a plate but I have only ever grown up eating it in a bowl. So you can go in with some crisy bread and scoop it up....yummy!!!! I was thinking of making some myself soon - but it is full of carrots and DH hates cooked carrots...But I agree with Lisa's suggestions aboce - formal - you put out both - informal stack em up...
