The boys were at Daddys this past weekend they came home in rip roaring rare form. They were upset about dad insisting on swim lessons stating they dont swim well enough yet the go off diving boards etc and are ok .......My older son is 9 and used the word depressed it scared the hell out of me ...any way I normally have a great relationship with my ex husbands GF well last night they picked the kids up and she didnt even come in the house,,,,,,Im not sure if my email could have upset them or the fact that my little guy told his dad earlier in the day he didnt want to go ....any way heres the email
Did something happen this weekend? when you guys left Rob was crying in his room and said he was depressed by what Dan said about swimming...I calmed him down and kind of blew it off figuring they were just really tired...but they are still Really cranky and upset today.

I don't think you said anything out of line. You just stated the facts, and didn't get emotional about it.
Maybe they took it as an accusation of bad parenting, though, if they were being sensitive. Maybe in the future you could use the 'sandwich' approach - say what you want to say, sandwiched in between two compliments to soften the blow.
'Thanks so much for bringing the boys back early this weekend. By the way, did something funny happen when you asked them to take swim lessons? Dan said he was 'depressed' which seems pretty unusual for a 9-year-old. Anyway, they had a lot of fun with you guys this weekend and can't wait to see you again on Friday.... etc...'

i think instead of an email -- if you have a good relationship with your ex and his GF -- you should have called. maybe they didn't like the fact it was an email?
i would call her to touch base and say you wanted to make sure everything is okay.

They are pretty hard to get in touch with unless by email..........I really like that we have a good relationship and dont want to do anything to harm it...Its very important for the kids

well, as a step-mom who has an okay relationship with real mom, I would not be offended by that email at all. I think it's fine. Maybe she was on the phone or something? Maybe she just didn't feel like getting out of the car? I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe she was in a bad mood or something.

i dont think there is anything wrong with the email
you had a question about what happened while you children wasnt in your care.
there is nothing mean or offensive by the email at all
