Re: please my newlywed friends, help me, I'm in tears...
Chapter 11 doesn't mean they are closing down!I just saw in your profile that it's John Anthony's. Most places file Chapter 11 just to protect themselves! They could be out of it in a few months...it doesn't mean they are closing.
Have you spoken to anyone there?
Don't worry!!!

Cyn are you absolutely sure????? There are rumours like that all the time. Did you call the hall? They have to do something about this. I really can't believe that John Anthony's is bankrupt.

You need to call the hall asap and clarify what this means to you. Then you need to decide if you trust what they say or you may want to consider changing venues. But Chapter 11 is to protect the business- many never close their doors.

Cynthia
many businesses file bankruptcy and do not close b/c they cannot handle the overhead
I would call them
they may or may not tell you the truth, or it could be a rumor, someone posted something about east wind filing a few weeks ago
Im sure it will work out

Was this an official announcement or did you hear this thru the rumor mills. Call them before you make any decisions. I have heard many false rumors about reception halls before. Please let us know what is going on. I hope it all works out for the best.

NEWSDAY ARTICLEUnder Chapter 11, a business continues to operate while it develops a plan to repay creditors. 'Our business plan is to sell assets off to satisfy the debt,' Gordon said.
Their lawyer states the above. Don't you intrepret that as JA's and all the other properties being sold? Wouldn't the properties be the assets they are selling off? ESPECIALLY if it is for mortgage payments?
At lunch I have a conference room and am going to call them...breathe cyn, breathe.
thanks ladies....so much.

Re: please my newlywed friends, help me, I'm in tears...
Cynthia- I would also suggest if you know a lawyer whether one who did a closing for you or a bky lawyer to check their computer systemsit is public knowledge of filings in something called PACER
I do not have it, you have to pay for it but many lawyers have it and if you feel that they do not give you an honest answer you can have someone check if they actually did file

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I don't think John Anthony's is going anywhere. They have other properties they could sell off if need be.

Re: please my newlywed friends, help me, I'm in tears...
The REAL ESTATE company is going to be selling the assets which is the property John Anthony's sits on. It's likely that a new real estate company that purchases the land would leave exisiting businesses there.Talk to the banquet manager (know that he is going to get a million and one phone calls today so it will be difficult to get through to him) and see what there plans are, how it affects the restaurant and planned events. Find out about cancellation policies, etc. You may want to look for a different venue where you won't have doubts about it being there for your wedding.

Breathe, breathe
Before you get too upset, follow everyone's advice and call the hall. Once you call, and get all the information, you can see how you feel. But I also think it will be fine. Businesses do this all the time. HUGS for you

Definately give them a call or stop in to talk to them. They should have some kind of plan on how they will be handeling all prebooked events.Best of luck to you...I hope it all works out.

Re: please my newlywed friends, help me, I'm in tears...
thanks ladies for your thoughts and advice...3 Excedrin and I think i'm ok...Port Dock Holdings owns stock of the restaurants.
Port Dock & Stone Corp own the buildings that house resturants.
They both filed.
I will call them at lunch (have to be careful with the long distance calls)...a just spoke with a friend of mine getting married there in 7 weeks. She spoke with one of the catering mangers who basically explained to her everything will be ok, but nothing in writing, no garauntees.
Exactly what Michele said, the establishment can say anything they want. The Catering Managers, wait staff are employees, that's all.
This is for heavy mortgage debt...meaning the banks get their money first, before anyone else. Vendors dealing with JA's now, (food, liquor, the cleaning company for the linens, etc) have to decide whether or not to do business with them, under the likelyhood, they may not get paid under C.11.
This is crazy...
p.s. edited to say...i can't stop in...i'm 400 miles away in Rochester...:(
Thanks lovely ladies...i will let you know what happens when I call.

THANK YOU ALL THE LOVELY LIWEDDINGS LADIES!
for your advice and kind words...planning long distance is tough, and when i found out his news, this was the first place I came to.
so, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
I am still waiting to hear back from JA's, the lawyer mentioned in the Newsday article, my lawyer and I am also going to place a call to the Staff Writer at Newsday who wrote the article. I think my reading comprehension is pretty good, but there is some 'legal jarjon' in the article I don't quite understand.
Also, I did a search here for 'Chapter 11'...seems as though this happened with the Roslyn Country Club. If anyone has any more info on that, what happened, did you rebook, get $ back...please fm me.
Thanks again...

I am giving you a big hug.....I am Aliaspook's sister. Her wedding is planned for Feb 29, 2204. She is freaking out. She is also waiting for her banquet manager to call. She called a few places to see if her Leap year day, Sunday night in the freezing winter day is available. All I can say that I said to her is to relax, and try to get all the facts. I am helping her look at a backup plan if necessary.
