Nope, RCC is no longer open! Just ask me!
I was supposed to be married there in March, but they decided to close the place in January and not tell anyone about it!
And NOT give us the money back! I hope the owner gets a disease and becomes impotent for the rest of this life!
Scum!Cynthia, I replied to your FM

Re: please my newlywed friends, help me, I'm in tears...
I was a JA's bride last Sept and this is very upsetting to me.... so I can imagine since your wedding hasnt happened yet how very upsetting this news is to you.I am shocked to hear this - they were one of my favorite vendors to deal with and they had the best food vendors so even if they stay open I wonder how that will affect everything else. I hope everything works out for you-- Best of luck to you.

checking in for an update. I would also consider looking at other venues so that you can protect yourself.

I really think that you may want to look at other venues and try to find a back up. Before you booked JA, were there any other places that you liked? Maybe one of them has your date open. I don't mean to upset you and Chapter 11 is not always the worst thing, but there is a chance they will close their doors. If I were you I would start looking at other options, just in case.

Re: please my newlywed friends, help me, I'm in tears...
hi lovely ladies...just wanted to give an update. My Dad spoke with the General Manager last night who basically informed him of a couple of things, many of which were in the Newsday article. Chap 11 is basically a restructuring plan to repay creditors. Yes, this does have to do with a family feud where one of the owners son's holds stock in the company. He wants more...SO, yes, they still are holding business operations, and under Chap 11. My Dad asked the golden question, can we get any $ back we laid out, and the answer was a yes.So now my FH and I have to make a decision...stay with JA's and hope in the 11 months till our day everything works out (and that they get out of this debt, don't sell the property, and not file Ch 7!)
Or, get the deposit back, start from square one, look for another reception hall hopefully on the same July 4th, 2004 date and around the same $.
I go in to work at noon, so I am going to start calling places to at least see what I am up against as far as availability. Wow, starting over...kinda sad. But I'm ok...
what else to do?Again, thank you Lovely Ladies!

Re: please my newlywed friends, help me - UPDATE
Hi lovlies! Well almost a week of tears, discussion, LOTS of long distance phone calls (yikes $$!) we made a decision...My Mom got the full deposit back from John Anthony's and cashed it. Today we signed a contract for the same July 4th 2004 date with The Vanderbilt Mansion! Yeah me!
Ha, I actually started crying on the phone with the Catering Manager! (I know, I know...sounds a bit mental, right? hellloooo zoloft!)
So we are all set! Now I can concentrate on my BIG INTERVIEW tomorrow for a new job in my company...it's the absolute job of my dreams, and basically I haven't been able to even think about it with everything going on! Weird, huh?
I keep telling myself, and this is something I really try to remind myself everyday, everything happens for a reason!
Again, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU lovley ladies! For your helpful advice, thoughtful FM's and
's!

Re: please my newlywed friends, help me, I'm in tears...
Sending you lots of hugs and support.
Chapter 11 is protection from bankrupty it doesn't mean officially they're going to fold. I'm not a lawyer but I work for a law firm for 4 years now. Look at K-Mart which they filed Chapter 11 and closed a few stores but overall most of their stores are still in business. During that period the store tries to pay their debts and refinance themselves to get out of debt. It does not mean that officially they're out of business. United Airlines filed Chapter 11 last year and they're still in business today. However, I suggest you to contact the banquet manager for their refund/cancellation policy if they fold completely before your wedding date. I also suggest to look into other reception venues/halls for back-up sites for your wedding date. Good luck.

Re: please my newlywed friends, help me, I'm in tears...
Glad to hear you got your deposit back from JAs and were able to book something else to your liking....Of course it saddens me that so many people are pulling out of JA's, it's like an alma mater (I was a bride there last yr), but I completely understand your decision. You dont want or need that kind of stress while planning one of the most important days of your life. Good luck.
