SOOOO do you ladies call MIL and FIL mom and dad??

I would like to but they have never officially offered it so I would feel odd calling them Mom and Dad without their permission. My parents asked DH to call them Mom and Dad but he feels weird about it. So right now we are just going with their first names.

I absolutely love my in-laws...they've been so great to me and there for me even during times my own family wasnt there for me... but i just cant get myself to do it....not to mention i know that if i did all of a sudden call them mom and dad DH and the rest of his family would totally make a joke of it (they're all very funny/sarcastic and theyd def notice the change and joke around about it)

I have trouble even calling them by their first names and wont call them by their first names unless i absolutely cant get their attention or whatever any other way LOL

(oh not to mention that i actually lived at their house for a year and still have these issues LOL )

I've never wanted to call them that, and I'm pretty sure they don't want me to either! Their first names are just fine. When we sign cards from both DH and I, I will write to mom and dad, but that's it!

wow this is very interesting!! i would have figured more than 2 people would have no problem calling them mom and dad

i'm VERY traditional... so i know one day i will be able to do it, but havent gotten there yet

i actually called them mom and dad cuz they told me once to refer to them as mom and dad but its weird sometimess..lol

I call them Mr. and Mrs. all the time. lol. OCCASIONALLY I'll refer to them to others by their first names but never mom and dad.

yeah i see where u are coming from... my mom always called her inlaws mom and dad & my married family members (like cousins and aunts and uncles) do the same... i'm very traditional like that

I call FIL Pop, which is what their kids call him, and I call my Dad, Dad. So calling him Pop is pretty easy. And DH's brother has the same name as his dad, so calling him Pop makes it easier.

MIL on the other hand . . .not so much. She told me to call her Mom, but I can't do it. I just cant! I have a Mom that I call Mom, and I just fee very uncomfortable. Maybe one day I will, but Im not ready yet.

i call them by their first names, and DH calls my dad by his first name, but i think it upsets my dad. my dad calls his IL's mom and pop (which totally weirds me out!), and when he sees DH, he always says 'hello son'. my dad asked me what i call my IL's and i told him i call them by their first names. i know he wants my DH to call him dad, but DH and i are both not feeling it.

My MIL I call by first name though in cards and stuff like like I will put Mom -- but we did this even before we were married.

My FIL has a nickname that everyone calls him -- even his grandchildren so that is what I call him too.

DH calls my parents by their first names. He always has even when he lived with them. Partly because he and my dad do business together so it would be weird calling him something else.

OH wait -- he does call my mom 'MIL'

I can't do it.. I have 1 mother and 1 father and they are mom and dad....

They address themselves to me as mom and dad, but I just can't call them that.

I do call his grandma, grandma.. but thats different.

Although i really and truly love them both its unfomfortable for me to call them mom and dad. I try to evade the whole name calling thing

I do that too with his grandparents and he did too when my grandfather was alive. I had no problems with that at all.

no- I call them by their names. My BIL calls them mom and dad though, but I dont feel right doing that. Thats just me!

ETA: if I am writing out a card orsomething to them from me and DH, I will adress it to mom and/or dad. And they will sign cards mom and dad. But I never actually call them that when addressing them in person. The same for DH with my parents.

i agree. and i actually call fmil mrs ___ because that's how she was introduced to me originally when we were just friends so that's what she always will be to me and she's a lot older than my parents so i dont feel as 'respectful' to be like oh hey mary what's up...u know? ill feel better when i can just refer to her as 'grandma' cuz i call my gma a special polish name.

Irene, she isn't your FMIL anymore. she is your mil now.

I voted 'other' because I do call them Mom/Dad but always followed by their last name.

I put other. I don't call them mom & dad but not because it's too weird. I've just called them by their first names for so many years now, it's just what I'm used to. I wouldn't have any issue calling them mom & dad but it's like habit to call them their names....same with DH and my parents.
