Poll: Would it be weird to have a get-together at our home with friends and family to celebrate our 1 year?

what do you think?

We decided that we would like to have our friends and family over to celebrate our 1 year anniversary.

We were going to eat our cake, but also order a new cake (just to replicate the top layer, but be new instead of 1 year old) and have coffee and make it an open house kind of thing.

My mom likes the idea, but thinks we should keep it to our moms and BESTEST friends only...we were thinking aunts, uncles, cousins...she thinks that would be overkill...

If your friends and family are willing to go to your house for a GTG for your anniversary...then why not...invite them and have fun.

I voted yes it would be weird - not because you want to share this day with family, but I think it would put people in the position that they think they should come with gifts...just my thought

I figured if we made it an open house instead of making a time range like '12-4', they'd realize it was more of an informal kind of thing.

what if we invited people via word of mouth and told them that it was just to get together and hang out? Would that make it less weird?

I was going to suggest the opposite - to send an invite - you could always put down - open house hours, or come whenever, or something casual - but I figured if you sent an invite - you could always put No Gifts! That's what I'd prob do!
