Puppy training question
So my puppy is almost 5 months old now. He knows to go on the training pad and we also bring him outside. Here's the problem. He will pee no problem outside, but likes to poop in the house still. Like I'll bring him for a nice walk, come in and 2 seconds later, he's pooping. And now for the past week he's been doing it off the pad. I tried walking him the first thing when I got home, but like maybe 2 times he pooped outside. I have to add we have only been taking him for walks for about the past 3 weeks, since before then he didn't have all his shots. Our last dog picked up on the whole pooping outside thing much quicker. Advice?

ITA... with our dog he does like a little walking waddle right before he has to poop and start circling around a little bit... as soon as I saw him starting to do that I brought him out right away!

ITA. I can tell when my dog is about to go, but they don't go in the house anymore.

Yes, but he only goes in that to sleep. He never goes to the bathroom in there either.

Well then that's what you do. Take him for a walk and if he doesn't poop, put him in the crate for 10 minutes. Then take him out for another walk. If he still doesn't poop, do it again.

Re: Puppy training question
Bring the pad and put it outside try to get him to go on the pad outside when he does praise him and give him treats (positive reinforcement) Do not yell at him when he goes in the house yelling reinforces the behavior (He is getting your attention therefore poop in the house=you focusing on him). Dogs generally do not understand the word NO unless you teach them it is connected to something. There is a lot of good training material on line personally I have found positive reinforcement training works the best. The book the other end of the leash is great.

If you are crate training they need to spend more time in there. After they nap you take them right outside to go. If they go, they get 15 minutes of play time with you then back to a nap. If they don't go, they dont get play time...it works! Check out some different websites for this. We had a trainer come in and she told us this is right on!

Re: Puppy training question
My dog was the same way, she was not fully potty trained until about a year old. Now she's fine in the house but if we go to someone else's house, she may go in their house BUT only if we let her out of our sight. The crate training helped a lot in the beginning but I stopped using the crate (as she has gotten older and doesnt like it) so now like summergal said justnever let her out of your sight!

Re: Puppy training question
This topic was discussed in puppy school.. They said to teach the dog the word poop or whatever you want to call it. You can actually train your dog to poop on command.... When you see them doing the poopy circle keep saying the 'word' reward your dog when they poo this way when you visit friends you can tell your dog it's time to poop before you go inside their house!! Re: Puppy training question
This is also what we learned in puppy school. As soon as they start circling pick them up and bring them outside till they do the deed and then give them a treat.
