I saw this on LIF and thought it would be a good question of the day...
Do you get along with your siblings? For those who don't get along with their siblings, are you OK with that or does it bother you that you don't get along?

I have two older brothers (2.5 years old than me) who are identical twins. We had a very difficult family life growing up so they always looked out for me and took care of me growing up. We have such an amazing bond are are so close. One is a doctor and the other is a vet. I am so incredibly proud of them and look up to them. They both walked me down the aisle at my wedding because our dad passed away.
DH is extremely close with them also which is really nice! They are like brothers also since DH has been in my family for 9 years.
They both got married last year also and I love both of their wives.

I have a very good relationship with the triplets but as far as my middle sister goes (5 years apart) it has always been rocky and its because we have very stubborn, strong personalities. It has become very strained lately because we found out in November that shes pregnant and shes only 17. I have had a very HARD time with. I was getting better but she has continued to disrespect this family so I am currently not talking to her and have dropped out of helping with the shower. I hate that its like this but like I said I take on the motherly role and feel like I have been a failure because of what she has done.
ooo boy that was long....but ive been venting alot lately about this so this question came at a good time.
I sort of understand how that can feel. You only want the best for her. I hope something changes once she has the child. I hope she grows up a bit ya know?

Re: ***QOTD 2/19***
i have one brother who's 6 years younger than me. when we were little we very close. we grew up in a rather unstable household, so i was really all he had.
as we've gotten older we've definitely grown apart. he is my 1/2 brother - we have the same mom but different dads, yet my dad treats him like a son. but the last 10 years have been very hard with him. he's had trouble w/ drugs and the law. i did my best to try to support him, but all i ever got in return was lies and deceit. i know i've given him as much as i can, he just refuses to change his ways. i don't know if we'll ever be close again, or have any kind of brother/sister relationship again.
DH on the other hand has only 1 brother who's 5 years younger, and they are best friends. we now live only 2 min away from him. i wish i got along better w/ his wife, she just has a very standoffish personality. but we do get along. she is having a baby in 2 weeks, so i'm glad that we'll have children that will grow up together, and eventually even go to the same schools together. i really want to instill in my children a sense of family that i never had growing up.

I have one sister that is 6.5 years younger than me. Growing up we were close but there was such a difference of age that it was hard for us to really relate to stuff. I mean, I'm a teenager and she's got toys, you know? But as she got older I saw she began to appreciate having an older sister more. We are very close now and I love it.
my sister and i are also 6 years apart - its kind of weird because i am 24 and we only lived together for 14 years of my life - up until i was 6 i was an only child and then the last 4 years she has lived in florida with my parents - so its kind of hard to be close when you live far away and have so many years in between......im hoping once i move down to florida we can hang out more.....our relationship is weird - i can't explain it.....i hope we are more 'sisterly' once i get down there....

I have an older brother (10 yrs older) - we get along fine. We're not close by any means but we have a good relationship - we can count on each other. I love his wife too.
I have a younger bro (2.5 yrs younger) - we get along great!!!! We love each other, hate each other and definitely have each other's backs. We have a really good relationship - we can tell each other EXACTLY how we feel. It's awesome.
I also have a younger sister (10 yrs younger) - my parents had her late in life and my dad has since passed so she basically had NO discipline... our relationship isn't the best. Especially since I was a BSer growing up - she can't fool me. Our relationship is getting better - like Jenn - I kind of mother her so she doesn't really come to me with anything or I'd tell on her. Now - I've grown up a bit and know when to be the sister and when to be the mother so our relationship is 10-times better.

I love my sisters. They are 3 years younger than I am and they're prolly closer with eachother than they are with me (they're twins), but I do adore them.

my sister and I did not get along until I went to college- now we're best friends.
dh has a sister and a brother- we are both really close with his sister. his brother, he lost contact with and I have never met him (different mothers, same dad)
Dh feels really bad about losing touch with his brother- he is one of the only links to his dad, who is deceased.

Re: ***QOTD 2/19***
I LOVE my siblings to death. I'm the oldest of 3 with a younger sister in her mid 20s who is married and younger brother who is in his teens.
My sister and I are currently estranged. We haven't been close for about 10 years to the point where I wasn't invited to her wedding and she was pure torture at mine with bouts of civility here and there. she's a very troubled, toxic person and while I love her, she isn't someone I would pick to be in my life.
I asked her to be in my wedding b/c she's my sister. She ended up having my mom and I pay for her dress b/c 'she forgot she had to put a deposit down'. She didn't come to my shower. She was rude all day to my mom the day of the wedding and she left the wedding early w/o even saying goodbye. Nor did she give us a card let alone a gift.
Am I happy we are like this: no. absolutely not but she doesn't want to be helped and she's too self-involved and destructive to be a part of my life.
Sorry vented!

Re: ***QOTD 2/19***
my sisters are my CLOSEST friends possible. I'm the middle child with a sister 3 years older and another sister 3 years younger than me. We're all so close in age and have a lot of the same traits (personality wise), so we get along great. Honestly, I consider them my best friends above any other. Needless to say, they were both my Matron & Maid of Honor.

My older sister and I are best friends. We shared a room until I was 18 and she was 20. She took care of me my whole life. I have an 18 year old sister who I wish I was closer with. After our dad split up from her mom her mother moved her deep into Long Island and it made it really hard for us to see eachother. I also have a 7 year old sister in Florida. I dont really know her.

Re: ***QOTD 2/19***
seems like there are a lot of families with mult births, ie twins, triplets. I have one brother 2 1/2 yrs older and a twin sister. My ex tried to keep me from my family and we were separated for a few yrs. My sister is very genereous to me although she is very opinionated towards me also. We get along but would not say we are close. She lives about 45 min away and has a hectic schedule so she is always too busy for me, so I don't really bother with her often. But she helps me out if I need it, she even paid for our HM. My brother lives in NJ. We don't see each other much. He is a lawyer with a hectic schedule like my sister. If I needed something they would be there for me though and the reverse is true. I have a 1/2 sister that is a godmother to my son, big mistake. Hate her now and would never speak to her again. Have a stepbrother from my dad getting remarried, hate him.
