Question about applying for a job - etiquette

Question about applying for a job - etiquette

I applied for a job 2 weeks ago that's based in greenlawn, about 10 mins from my apt. It's a great job for me. I just noticed it was posted again on the job sites today (originally it was posted jan 1 I think). I was going to print out the cover letter / resume I had emailed them and mail it to them .. I mean, I am sure they didn't call because they didn't think I was a good fit, but I figure there's no harm in giving myself a little more exposure right? Worst they could do is think, 'this one again? Obviously we didn't call her for a reason!' Right?

My question is - should I mail it or bring it there tomorrow, all dressed up? (Well, dress pants and a nice sweater?) Would it hold any more weight if the receptionist told the HR people, she just dropped this off? OR is that overkill?

hmmm.... if you already applied for the job - i'd say overkill!!

i would just mail it!

Honestly, it may not really make a difference. However, if you have the free time, why not? It can't hurt.

Good luck!

Re: Question about applying for a job - etiquette

I remember at my old job, they said that they were most impressed with the people who came down personally to give them their resumes and such. I don't know if that's just because it's a school, or if it's that way where ever you go. I'm going to be applying for jobs pretty soon and I plan to go down personally (although I'd MUCH rather just mail it in)

But since you've already e-mailed it... I'm not sure. I haven't had enough experience with applying for jobs to give real advice. (i'm nervous to begin that process)

I agree with Lizzie. I don't think it can hurt-especially in this job market it's key to stand out.

When I went to a career fair and found my job- I gave them my resume. Then I got the contact info of the recruiter and e-mailed and mailed him a copy of my resume. Dork! I know. When he called to set up the interview he said 'I got your resume from a recruiter, and your mailed copy, and your e-mail...' But hey I got the job so I guess it's better to be on the radar than just below. Good luck Jenn! I know you will find something.

ETA: I always like to be sure when I e-mail a resume to send a mailed copy because you never know about spam filters and such. Sometimes the person will never get it.

Re: Question about applying for a job - etiquette

Okay so when I applied for my job there were two training classes opening up. One was in a month and definite and the other was in a few months and pending on budget. I was originally put in the second class. . . of course, I did not know this at the time.

Well, when my friends started getting phone calls that they were hired. I called up to 'follow up' and explain that I was super excited about the opportunity and just wanted to make sure they had everything they needed. That phone call bumped me up to the first and definite class!! They were so impressed. Now, the second class DID happen so I would have gotten it anyway BUT I am so happy that I made that call.

More of the too long story is - DO IT!

good luck!

GO THERE! i would go down looking REAL nice & bring it in person. walk in with a smile, be super nice - only i wouldn't mention that u already emailed it. Who knows, maybe they just overlooked it or they didn't get it??? u never know. To me, the worst that can happen is they say 'we saw his already' and toss it... BUT, what if they really like u?? gotta be in it to win it - and going in personally & looking nice makes a HUGE difference...they will have a face to ur name as opposed to the dozen emails they've probably gotten. GL! keep us updated

3rd reply - i know...but just to give u more encouragement..

last year when i was looking for jobs, I got dressed to the nine - did my hair and makeup, etc. (dh was like where are u going lol 'why are u getting dolled up just to drop off ur resume??')...ANYWAYS, when i walked in & asked to drop my res & speak with the manager - she came out & greeted me...then said 'Well to be honest - we really are done with hiring our Holiday temps...but I really like the way you look & i want you to come in for an interview' !!!!!!!!! lol. YAY! long story to short, not only did i get the job - but i was kept when the others were let go & promoted within 6months. It's crazy because if i would've just applied online or just gone there not really looking my best, I probably wouldn't have gotten it. It's now a running joke with the girls that i got hired for being hot lol ANYWAYS, just another thing to share! so go!
