Question for Cat Mommies

Question for Cat Mommies

Have a question: I have a female cat who is 1 1/2 yrs old. For the past few months she has developed a habit of regurgitating her food within 5 mins of eating. It does not happen all the time, maybe 4 or 5 times a month. I have taken her to the vet, gotten x rays and labwork, everything is normal. I was basically told that this is normal for cats. Is that true?? I have another cat who is 3 (female also) and this never happens to her...

One of my cats did that. Is the food partially digested (chunky) or is it clear? If it's partially digested, I read online that sometimes if a bowl is too deep and/or a cat eats too quickly or too much it can be indigestion so they throw it up. If it's clearish, it's probably a hairball.

ugh I have a male cat that does this almost every other day or so... Its the running joke that we have the fattest bulimic cat ever(He is bigger then my dog!) We were also told that as nasty as it is...its pretty common. i heard you could try and feed them smaller amounts of food at a time so they eat slower.

its definitely food, looks like it wasnt even chewed, whole pieces. I just feel bad for her, but she is a true scaredy cat! I hope she grows out of it!

I have tried everything to help her, smaller portions, a 1/4 of a pepcid at night, switched her to Halo food, nothing seems to help...just so upsetting

Yeah that just happened to my cat yesterday! I think she just ate too fast and too much!

I would try giving it to her in a more shallow bowl and keep trying with the smaller portions. If it doesn't work, then it may just be how she is. Just make sure you take care of her teeth too!

YES normal!! I have 2 cats and they both do it all the time. I don't know why... it might be hairballs.... but we joke and just say they are bulemic.

Re: Question for Cat Mommies

My female cat who is 8 does this all the time... We chalked it up to her just eating too fast... Never took her to the vet so its a complete guess

My male cat who is 1 1/2 doesnt do this at all...

Well yes it does happen i would try changing teh type of food you are using. Some times Wet cat food has to many preservatives fo them to digest. Or sometimes its just the brand. You should also buy patte style its easierthen the sliced & has let preservs in it. Or you should buy indoor formula. She may have alot of hairballs & the food gets caught in it & makes her regurg.
I actually take 2 tsp of wet & mix it with indoor formula dry food.
Hth!

Re: Question for Cat Mommies

My cat was a big time gagger. When he was healthy he did it a few times a month, but at the end when he got sick he was doing it all the time, and then just stopped eating. He was 10 though, and was chubby his entire life, so we think that led to it. It's good that she's young though and her tests came back normal, so I wouldn't get too worried. If she was older, then maybe a different story.
