Ok this is the deal before I go to lunch. I expect to read lots of responses when I get back ladies!
We're doing the day-after shoot. Originally the idea was to do it in the city; grand central, Central park, etc. Fun, public photos.
BUT DH has major anxiety-just called me up at work to ask me if maybe we could do them in a less public venue.
There are only two other things I have ever seen him this anxious about; our wedding and dancing in public. He gets physically sick at the idea of dancing where people can see, though he dances with me at home.
He wants to do the shoot in the woods because he likes those shots the best. We live near a resrvation. We used to go there all the time in the summers when we startd dating. Its free to the public but VERY isolated in the sense when we would go out on the best days, we'd see maybe one other person with their dog.
So we'd get great shots I know, and he would get his isolation which would probably make for better shots because he'd be relaxed. He LOVES the woods; grew up playing in them as a kid so it's his thing. he likes to explore.
'm just not sure because 1.) kinda liked the idea of th city pics 2) I dont even know if our photographer would be willing to travel that far. I have to ask her first.
but Im thinking if she says it ok, I should just do it in the woods right? Because I dont wnat him to be miserable.
Thoughts?

i think you should do a few city shots then head over to central park, and take a bunch more away from all the people, since theres millions of places within there.
BTW i'm so jealous your doing these pics, I wish we had $$ to do them, I think they always look so awesome!!

will the photographer travel to the island?? if so i love Eisenhower park.. its gorgeous for all those types of pics.
otherwise, i understand that you want to have shots in the city.. but if your DH is really uncomfortable where he wouldnt be relaxed in the photos, then i would just do them where he feels is right!

If he isnt going to be comfortable with the city then I would definitely do the woods. You may wind up HATING the pics in the city and its one of those things that is a 1 chance/1time thing..i would do the woods

I think if he is uncomfortable in the busier locations being dressed up and being the center of attention will make him even more uncomfortable. Your pics may not turn out to be as laid back as you wnated them. The fact that he is thinking of this already and called you to change the loacation to the woods speaks volumes. I love both kinds of pics equally as much and you can get great shots either way I think if you want fun and relaxed shots the woods is the way to go.

I'd say try to negotiate a compromise and do some of both, unless he's really nervous about it, in which case Cat's right - the pics will probably show it.

KittytheStray's pics were in a woodland setting, right? I think they can be very romantic and beautiful! Plus you wouldn't want DH to look like this in every pic...
If your DH is going to be uncomfortable, then I would definetly go with the woods.

Here's what I think!!!! My DH is similar reallllllly uncomfortable being the 'center' of attention, so he would DEFINITELY need some booze or meds to get through a day romping around midtown in wedding gear.
So I say.....
A) CHances are your photog WILL travel to NJ, so plan to do it at your woodsy location.
b) If you're anywhere near the river, could you the bulk of them at the woodsy location, then take a few shots at the pier, if you have a nice horizon of NYC? Then at least you get a little industrial/cityscape?
c) You could always PHOTOSHOP yourselves into NYC Photos!!!! bahahahahahahaaha

def check w/ the photog, jenn. it will likely work out better for everyone in the end if you go for something more isolated...you dont want DH to be visibly uncomfy in your day after pics!! he will likely loosen up and be more comfy posing and whatnot if youre somewhere more private so you may get much better pics in the end that way. its sweet that youre taking his concern to heart.
i cant wait to see these pics...it sounds like a beautiful spot for pics! doesnt get much better than wide open nature IMO.

actually kittythestrays pics came right to mind for me as well. i can see some awesome potential for pics in my head.

I have to agree that if DH would be uncomfortable, you're better off in the woods where he'll be more relaxed, giving you better pictures more than likely.

I agree, if he isn't comfortable and wind up hating the shots then it's money wasted.
You went through 1 disappointment with your wedding proofs, you don't want that to happen again.
Also, in isolation you could get some nice, sexy shots that you probably couldn't do in the city!

Ok back! just spoke to him and he said he would be ok in CP if I want it (poor guy) because we did our engagement photos there and they came out ok. I said this is true BUT we will be in wedding gear this time so the number of people staring will be 100x as many. He got REAL quiet.
Then he suggested doing them in LI closer to the photographer because he feels bad about making her travel even if she agreed to do it if we paid her gas.
I know she is based in Amityvlle. Does anyone know of beautiful locations in that area? if we are going to do this, we're TRASHING this dress lol. Sucker still doesnt fit right anyway. If I dont walk like I have a book on my head the 'ladies' pop free and wave lmao.
So..locations? I dont know LI AT ALL! I'll ask her too but I thought maybe we'd get more ideas from the masses
These are the types of shots I like. I also love the in the water shots, but If I get my hair wet I look liek a drowned cat lmao so we're not doing that!
ETA: pics wont load bah so they are in an album under 'Day After Shots I like'

Why don't you take pictures in DUMBO. You'll have the city in the background. There's even a small beach there, and you can get some pics on the brooklyn bridge. Its always pretty empty there. I took some of my pictures there. I just added an album so you can see a few of them. I included a few at the DUMBO 'beach', one with the city backdrop and one with the bridge in the background.
