Seems that some of us are 'old'

Original post by michele31

It feels weird sometimes when I visit the BHB and see new names. I used to know everyone on the board. I used to know about everyone's plans and dreams. We all supported each other and honestly, there was not too much 'drama'. Sometimes we disagreed, sometimes we agreed. In the end, nothing got very personal. And especially if one of us was pi$$ed at a vendor. The bride was NEVER personally attacked because of that.
What makes me really sad is the fact that some of the 'new' brides will almost attack one of 'us' because we post something they do not agree with. It really upsets me that Stef was so attacked because she posted that she didn't agree with something a vendor did. Of course, that could happen to ANY of us. I almost don't want to go to the BHB anymore. Why share and help when you will just be attacked so quickly if you don't like something?

So to my Newlywed friends...thank you, thank you, thank you. I don't know how active I would have been on this board if I just started posting today. It is because of all you....the girls I planned side by side with, that I have formed so many true friendships.

I couldn't agree more with what everyone has said here.

It's sad really that new brides that come here are not going to get the same wonderful advise we got from the NW's because we cant be bothered to get into an argument or lengthy, and in the case with Stef, hostile discussion defending your opinions.

Yes it is a public forum, ideas and opinions are invited from everyone. But there is a general lack of repect and nastiness combined with the fact that some posters have not heard the expression 'beat a dead horse' or just let it go!

This of course does not apply to all the brides.

I LOVE MY NW BOARD! (and my story board) - Let's face it. Seems like we all grew close because we all handled things with maturity. I haven't been on BHB since the holidays. The bantering bores me. If it comes over here, maybe liweddings will be good enough to offer a 'nice newlyweds of 2001-2002 site that like to talk crafts, books and job troubles! !'

I also agree with all of you. I do not remember the BHB board being as dramatic and hostile while I was planning. It seems to have changed quick (I just got married 12/15). Thanks to everyone who has made the newlywed board a gret place to be

(Oh and Stef? Side Note? I am not even bothering reading whatever trash some persnickety little &%*^(% wrote to you, because quite honestly I don’t have the time to root around in the evil over there – but for anybody that has ever said anything against my own personal Martha Stewart /wedding planner / practical advice giver / straight-forward thinker/ sonicstef diva , you are seriously not welcome. Don’t come over. Because there are too many people here that love her.)

You won’t have a chance little fish.

It seems like in the past several months our little community has just exploded I agree with Tammy. There are so many new posters, I can't keep up with everyone anymore. Last year I would know each month who was getting married, where and to whom. Now, forget it. Even though I am not a newlywed, I frequently hang out over here (and sometimes on the parenting board, where I REALLY don't belong) and have had great experiences with most of the newlyweds.

I refuse to contribute to the madness, but I took exception to the post on the BHB board that it is a BRIDES helping brides board. I see that you all don't post as often over there anymore, but don't abandon all of us completely.

Please don't lump all of the brides into one 'we don't want you over here' category. I would hate to see such a sharp divide occur such that NWs wont post on the BHB board and vice versa. And I also don't want to the NWs to close this board to new members. I certainly don't want to see that happen before 7/5/03.

Oh Becky I don’t mean EVERYBODY!!! Just the mean ones!

Sorry that wasn’t clear. I think I am just being protective of a really good feeling supportive site over here. We rarely agree on everything, but have been able to maintain such a wonderful level of decorum over here. I think that we basically refrain from posting if it’s something that really doesn’t apply to us or we might just post to say oops I disagree but hugs anyway, etc.

All are welcome that are newlyweds with a heart!

Re: Seems that some of us are 'old'

After the 'poof be gone' comment and the general lack of respect I have decide NOT to visit the BHB anymore, which is a shame since I have know lots about vendors and can usually offer some advise.
Stef was personally attacked because she made a comment that something upset her. And instead of a very simple 'I never meant to upset you. I'm sorry' she got personally attacked and NEW threads were started. Honestly if was a sad day for me because that just meant it could happen to any of us, regarding any post.
To my nice, happy, respectful, mature newlyweds over on this side. I am proud to be a part of 'this' family.

Re: Seems that some of us are 'old'

I think a big part of the surge in new members on this site is a few posts on The Knot about us....people aren't just accidentally finding this site anymore, they are being told, and they are coming to see what the fuss is about. Everything that is good about this site is attracting a whole lotta bad.

That poof be gone comment made me want to leave the site altogether. It just seems like a lot of members want to be the center of attention, are really too proud of themselves, and feel the need to preach.

Stef, I just hope you find solace in the peopl here that really do appreciate you and everything you've done for us.

Re: Seems that some of us are 'old'

I think the nasty comments are DEFINATLY childish, however I am going to have to be the one who disagrees here.

I feel that if you personally decide to post all of your ideas, pictures, ect. you have to expect some people to use them.. In no post have I ever read anyone say here look at my *whatever* but dont recreate it..

All im saying is that If i wanted to make invitiations, that someone else on this board made and posted, and my computer was on the fritz, so I took the pic from here and brought it to an engraver to print for me, have I done something wrong? Isnt that kind of the same thing, isnt that why we are all here to share ideas in the hopes that someone can get use out of them? I am happy if someone uses one of my ideas or even vendors. I dont think that curly herself nor LA productions has done anything wrong. There are so many new girls everyday, we can not always expect everyone to get along, but keep in mind that one day some of those girls on the BHB will be here on the Newlywed board.

I do not expect any replies, as I just feel I do not think that there was anything done wrong here.

That comment, along with a few others, was totally inappropriate IMO. Just completely uncalled for

Re: Seems that some of us are 'old'

Yes, that comment was the most disrespectful thing I have read. Very sad, if I was Stef I'd be hurt about the whole thing too.

it was a childish comment
I just read it now..... thanks Misty and michele

Re: Seems that some of us are 'old'

Suzanne- The fact is that she was/is UPSET and very few people respected her feelings. Each of us has a RIGHT to be upset, regardless whether someone agrees to why. And again, the personal attacks were unfair and uncalled for. This thread is about many 'new' brides treating the 'old' brides like are feelings don't matter. And that is what I don't like.

Re: Seems that some of us are 'old'

Suzanne, why did you have to reply to THIS thread about the situation with Stef? We are all upset about the nastiness of some of the brides on this site, it's not only about program thread, it's been going on for a while and it seemed to me like that is what was being discussed on this thread. Didn't you have enough opportunities to post on one of those other threads on the BHB board (there were 3 or 4 of them going on about the same topic). You had to post your opinion here??

I'm sorry, maybe it's pregnancy hormones, because I usually don't respond to posts that I don't agree with but this is making me really angry.

Re: Seems that some of us are 'old'

Im soo not saying no-one here has a right to be upset, but im not sure what the heck anyone is upset about.. If you post EVERY SINGLE detail of your wedding on here, ( a public forum) you have to expect that that will happen.. If thats what makes you upset then you should consider deleting all of you posts that offer details and pictures. I think everyones feelings do matter, and im sure so do many other people , however now that the board is just getting so big, there is going to be differences of opinions and in some cases name calling, which i do not think is the right way at all to handle an argument. But I do not think it is Brides vs. newlyweds as it seems to be assumed, i think it happens with everyone.

Plain and simple I just do not think Curly did anything wrong. If she did, then you need to blame me as well, because I have used other ideas as well, in fact printed out some corsage pictures and gave them to my florist to recreate.
