SEMI SPINOFF: What are some of the funniest sayings/ 'bits of wisdom' you have heard or been given?

I wanted to post this thread yesterday when Jagruti mentiond my grandma's funny sayings but forgot~! So its a semi-spinoff from Milanas but instead of advice, what are some of the sayings you've ever heard that wre funny or insightful?

I tend to use a lot of my grandmas as I get older which is funny because they throw my friends off. They're in Spanish so have to translate which makes them make even less sense lol.

I have a friend down south who does the same thing but hers are southern sayings.

Some of Grandma's.

'Freíryendo y comiendo' = 'fruing and eating.' usually used when you're doing something too quickly and ina hurry and you're getting that slow head shake of disapproval from the person
watching you (Grandma!)

'Menos perros, menos pulgas.'= 'fewer dogs means fewer fleas.' Usually meaning in terms of people. Like if you were upset at a stunt someone pulled on you like bailing out of plans at the last or being obnoxious to you, you'd use that. Like well if they don't come who cares.

She has a ton of others but can't rememebr tham all. Some my friend uses alot (HYSTERICAL in her THICK alabama accent)

-'Happy as a dead pig in the sunshine.'
Meaning you don't grasp or worry about what's going on

-'The sun don't shine on the same dog's tail all the time.'
Meaning you'll eventually get what you deserve

Those are GREAT!!!

Ok some irish bits of wisdom:

If that man went to a wedding, he'd stay for the christening. (For someone who is known to overstay their welcome).

He'd steal the eye out of your head. ('He's a thief!')

There's a lid for every pot. (My mom uses this one to explain it when 2 'odd' people become a couple)...

As I get older I find myself using two of my grandmothers favortie phrases: 1) when something is too hot...I say 'Hot Burny Burny' 2) when DH & I are going out and he goes out to the car before me I say that I'll be out in 'Two Shakes of a Lambs Tail'.

HAH I LOVE em! keep em coming. As a kid I used to keep track of all the funny things people said like 'out like a Light.'

The first one about the wedding sooo applies to my FIL and MIL. I love them but they are the people who will NOT LEAVE because they don't wnat to be rude but hello..if the dishes are washed and put away and convo has stopped its time to GO!

The lid for every pot one is cute. I should make a plaque saying that and hang it in my kitchen.

From my DH's grandmother:

In response to 'Well I thought ____________'

She used to say 'you know what 'thought' did'? LIttle Johnny thought he farted but he really crapped his pants'. Not so tactful, but point taken.

My Great Grandmother used to say to the family 'If you didn't fight you'd never be able to make up.

This is what my uncle shared with me and Michael in our wedding guest book.

my friend's aunt always said 'she is the cat's mother' and now i actually use it when my nieces say 'SHE yelled at me or SHE told me to do this' when referring to their moms.
