Re: Share your Honeymoon Story
No real horror/illness stories. We went to South Africa and Zimbawee for our honeymoon.South Africa was amazing....I miss it almost everyday as weird as that sounds.
Zimbawee was very different from SA. the gov't there is very oppresive to the people and they have a lot of problems in the country. I will tell you that in Zimbawee there is a huge pink/orange type spider called a Sun spider. some of the guests at the lodge had seen them in their rooms
well it scared me sooo much that when we got back to our room i cried to scott that i wanted to come home and I made him sleep with the lights on all night and pull the netting over our bed sooo tight and tuck it into the matress so that nothing could ever get inside. I never saw one!!!Here are some photos of our trip:
This is on the deck area of our room, notice the baby attached to the mommy.

Re: Share your Honeymoon Story
Coselige reminded me of a good story...we took this booze bus, Kukuu Kunuku and our bus driver was this big but short guy, Sweet Daddy (see below). At the end of the night and many drinks later, Jesse (the friends that we met and Gary were doing a shot with him!)
I looked at Gary and said do you think it is wise that you are doing a shot with OUR BUS DRIVER!?!?! Gary looks at me and says Stace, did you see the size of him, I think one shot would not affect him!! It was very funny!

Re: Share your Honeymoon Story
boy do I have a memorable waste of 10-11 hours story!! WE DID our flights to vegas thru whatever company, I forgot EXPEDIA.com USED to bethe airline was national which is no longer/ so they canceled/changed our flight home but never told us!
coming home, we get to the airport about two hours before our flight.......... and craig doesnt see it on the board
so he goes to ask, I told him its probably not up there because we got here too early, he said maybe but goes to ask anyway
the lady tells him that the flight was changed to 11pm!!! mind you this is like 1PM
NO ONE EVER EMAILED ME called or nothing
by the time we would have got back to town , since we checked out of our room, we would have had no where to go w/our luggage so we were stuck there all day/nite!! it was annoying as can be
and we had no choice but to stay there --they tried to get us on another earlier flight but there was none before that 11pm one
when we got home we called and they said they told us but they never did AND I had the confirmation the idiots emailed me like ten days before saying our flight was 345PM basically they lied
sent us free airline tix but they are useless now as national no longer exists

Re: Share your Honeymoon Story
Well... our honeymoon was quite a memorable one! We went to Mexico, and being the discount traveler that I am, I decided to bid on plane tickets from skyauction.com. Not too bad, except our plane was leaving 2 days before we had any reservations. I thought, Great... more time in Mexico. We planned to stay in Cancun for 2 nights and Tulum for 12 days. Well, I booked both places to stay... needless to say, we stayed in the Ghetto of Cancun... where there is nothing but dirt and little shanty towns (but it was quite interesting since both DH and I are sociologist... but come on)... then we head to the airport to pick up our car... which was a standard... I learned quickly how to drive since DH had some problems with his license... Head down to Tulum to our beach house... which was adorable.
Looked just like something straight from Guilligan's Island... well we were there for 3 nights... and 2 guys were in the house and one was by the front door... can you imagine we were on roof deck... Needless to say, we high-tailed it out of there and stayed the rest of the time in Playa del Carmen... But it was quite a scare!!! (can you imagine they entered the house through the roof... as cute as it looks... NEVER again!!!)
Here's a picture of the infamous casita...

Re: Share your Honeymoon Story
We went to Bermuda and it was a blast! We had so much fun…I have no major horror stories but we did have a little bit of a scare went my husband and I went horsebackriding. We were on the trail and the horses were all walking in a line, there was no trotting or anything. The all of a sudden my husbands horse stopped turned around and with his front legs leaped up in the air and was about to attack the horse behind her. All I saw was husband fighting with the reigns to get the horse to stop and he had our cam corder in his hands as well. I thought he was going to fall off that horse I was so scared for him, but he pulled the reigns back and the trail leaders yelled at the horse as well and then she calmed down and went back on the trail. Then I also met some long lost relatives of my grandmother which was really cool. I took some pictures with them and my husband had the video recorder on so my mom got to see who they were and she recognized them. She said she hadn’t seen them in 30 years!
We just had the time of our lives! I will post some pictures from the trip soon.

Re: Share your Honeymoon Story
We took a cruise to Bermuda also-- As you know on a cruise- you are seated with the same people during formal dining.....So, one of our dining mates was this couple from CT who got marrid the same day as us. Sorry to say they were THE nerdiest people we have ever met! The woman was like 35 and dressed like she was 70 with long grandma housedresses - the guy was an engineer and told the most boring stories. They would SHARE just ONE glass of wine every evening, never more, never less. Meanwhile we shared a bottle of vino, ha! The few nights we were in Bermuda we ate on the island - when we returned they were like where were you, we missed you!!! So, we had to suffer through more boring stories with them. They are in our scrapbook as the CT dorks. Luckily the other couples were cool.
Edit to say- who knows, we might be in their scrapbook as the nerds from NY..... though seriously you cant get any nerdier than these two.!

Re: Share your Honeymoon Story
DH wanted to snorkle with the sea turtles in Barbados....I am not one for the reptiles (ICKKK). Well when we decided to go for it the catamaran dropped us off in 30 foot deep water, I am a very strong swimmer, DH is not. I loved it, I was playing with the turtles and taking pics, DH had to brought to the boat by the tour guides he hated it so much.In St Thomas they had huge iganuas everywhere, I was sitting down and one came up behind me, I SCREECHED so loud and jumped from a sitting position onto DH shoulders

Re: Share your Honeymoon Story
Well we started off in JFk and got charged $80 b/c our bags were too heavy..the girl asked us if we wanted to repack..okay and go back to Suffolk and miss my plane? It took 2 hours in Vegas to get our rental car b/c their computers were down so they had to hand write each slip!!!!
After Vegas I got sick with Strep Throat and Joe had to take me to a clinic on the way to Sequioa National Park. We left too late then and got stuck in 2 hours worth of traffic on some desert highway...four miles in two hours..that's how bad!!!!
The normal five hour drive took us 8!!!!!!
Other then that we had a good time!!!

Re: Share your Honeymoon Story
Two things come to mind:1) During our HM in the Riviera Maya in Mexico, Hurricane Claudette was supposed to come so the manager of the resort sent us a note explaining the activities they set up while the hurricane hits. He writes that they have an exciting line-up of movies planned, starting with 'Schindler's List.' We skipped that one.
2) On our last full day there, we ran out of sunblock (we brought 2 tubes) so I bought some with an SPF 22 at the boutique. DH and I applied it liberally, but it did nothing! We got so burnt (and I only stayed in the sun for a total of less than 2 hours)!!! DH was not red but fushia!!! Later that afternoon,
DH: Oh, sh*t, that's right!
Me: What?
DH: Someone at work told me to stay away from Mexican sunscreen. Said it doesn't work.
Me: Now you remember this?!
And we had scheduled a couple's massage for later that afternoon, which we did. Don't ever get a massage when you have sunburn!

The first part of our HM was in Disney World where Dh started the HM off with strep throat. Then I got a UTI. The second part of our HM was supposed to be in Key West but a hurricaine was lurking right by there so we cancelled that part

Re: Share your Honeymoon Story
OK Jenn said I needed to share a story- This is the one that comes to mind firstOn our third to last night- Frankie was sleeping and I had the TV on and out of the corner of my eye I think I see something black flash past me. Ok all I could think back was to this beach restaurant in Costa Rica and the bats that were flying above us as we ate. It was like take a bite, duck, chew, start procedure over.
Anyway, I say - nope I am imagining it-- well the TV gets really bright again during one commercial and I saw it again. This time no mistaking it there was something BIG AND BLACK that flew through the room. I am think- nope not a bird it's a BAT-- ACK!
So I try to start waking Frankie up. Nothing out like a light. So I start punching his hip and telling him there is a bat in the room. He tells me it is a moth and to go to sleep. I am now screaming at him that I would not wake him up for a moth!!
I get up and head towards the desk and the mirror where I saw it fly towards. Throw on all the lights. Don't see it! Start pushing on this huge mirror thinking that it was behind the mirror--NOPE it was across the ENTIRE bottom, it was huge.
I scream. It was sooooo big. Bigger than I expected for a bat! Except it was not a bat it was a huge MOTH! It's wing span was huge!!
Frankie keeps saying see you woke me up for a moth!

Re: Share your Honeymoon Story
These stories are too funny!! LOL!!I have a story from each of the places we went. First, in Bar Harbor....
(I posted this on NWR a while ago..) We went to Acadia Park to go exploring. I had found a little hair clip in his car that I had lost and started playing with it. I thought it would be cute, so I reached over and clipped it into his hair, on the top of his head. Well, we both forgot about it, and started our adventure through the park.
A little while later, he reached his hand up to brush it through his hair, and he felt 'something' there! He jumped clean out of his skin, grabbed 'it' and yelled..... 'AAHHHHHHHH!!!' and he threw it as HARD as he could! He thought it was a bug or some kind of creature!!!!
We both saw it go flying and land in the path, and it took us both a few seconds to realize it was the HAIR CLIP!!! I laughed SO hard, I actually had to squat down in the middle of the path. I couldn't catch my breath! It was hysterical!!! Big tough cop from the Bronx, screaming because of a 'bug' in his hair!!!!
On top of that, we had passed several people on the path before he discovered the clip in his hair. Wonder what they thought of his funky 'do! LOL!!!
In Newport, there was humor mixed with danger....
It was our last night in the Bed & Breakfast. It had a gorgeous bathroom with deep soak jacuzzi tub and a fireplace. We hadn't used it yet, so we decided we would make our last night a romantic one. So my DH got the tub ready, and we lit a few pillar candles and put them around the edge of the tub. I put my hair up, because I didn't want to get my hair wet.
So we got into the tub and were relaxing, getting a little romantic. When suddenly my DH looks at me kind of funny and says, 'Karen.....your hair...' I thought my hair was slipping out of the clip and getting wet. So I said, 'Oh that's okay, I don't mind.' He said, 'NO! KAREN!! YOUR HAIR IS BURNING!!'
My hair must have come too close to one of the candles and it started to burn!!! I freaked out and dunked my head right under the water. When I came back up I looked like a drowned rat, but was still so scared that I dunked myself another two or three times!!! Then I burst into tears.
Then the smell hit!!! UGH!! The whole place smelled like burned hair!!! I told my DH he better turn on the light, so we can see the damage. Thankfully there was no visible damage to my hair, but the tub was full of black ashes and burned hair pieces. GROSS !!!!!!
So we drained the tub, I jumped in the shower to wash off the ashes, and we got dressed and went to bed. NO romance that night!!!
