sigh... growing pains

sigh... growing pains

Today was my son's first day of baseball camp.

They get to swim in the afternoon, so I packed his bathing suit in his backpack for him to change into.

I picked him up and asked all about his day... He was excited and had fun but then his mood changed and said:

'hey, ma... could you maybe give me underpants that don't have things on them, from now on?'

He then went on to tell me that the other kids were laughing at him in the changing room b/c his underpants had trucks on them.

I have to remind myself that he's not a little boy anymore... He's had the underpants in question for a while now, he's just a skinny kid and hasn't outgrown them...

I guess I need to go out and buy some tighty-whities..

my poor kid... I hate imagining what he went through in those moments.. I know it's not a major deal, but I'm sure for HIM, it was...

Isn't it sad how kids don't let each other be kids...my nephew asked for all his 'kid' decorations to be taken down off his bedroom walls when he was like 8 because some stupid friend said something......so sad...your poor son..

I know.. little by little I'm noticing the 'changes'

For example, this morning at the bus stop I gave him a bunch of kisses on the cheek (we call them piggy kisses) which he LOVES at home... but at the bus stop he was mortified and gave me the EYE...

I keep forgetting that he's not being treated like a baby when he's NOT at home..

btw-- he's curled up next to me right now while he watches tv.. he keeps kissing my arm

awww..that is so cute...kissing in public is a BIG no no! haha... My nephew runs from me...he is 9 now...but when we are indoors I grab him & kiss him like crazy...he pretends to hate it...but he really doesn't get mad....meanwhile my little 4 year old nephew will give me hugs & kisses anytime! The 9 yr old wants nothing to do with his Mom's affection in public either

Awwww. I always tell my sister I dread the day when my niece starts getting embarassed by things we do. While she was with me this past weekend I pulled out one of her bikinis that was pinkish neon and had little flowers and she said, 'isnt that too babyish?' I was like She ended up wearing it and she LOVES it. But I dont want her to grow up

Awww, so sad but I suppose they need to grow up. My Godson is 7 and I am not allowed to hug him anymore. We can 'high five' each other hello and goodbye and that's about as affectionate as I can be with him. Breaks my heart ..

Awww, buy him boxer briefs. He'll feel like a big boy & you'll chuckle everytime you do laundry and see these little 'big boy' draws. I still crack up when I'm folding my sons and he's 15!

Re: sigh... growing pains

guys this is really unnatural..

I couldn't sleep last night and I woke up this morning with this awful feeling.. When I was getting his clothes ready I saw how worse it could have been... He had lightning mcqueen, cartoonish dinosaurs and planets in there... Thankfully this was just trucks..

As I drove to work I was worried that his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle bathing suit would get him teased. (He left his *neutral* one at camp)

it's killing me.. I keep envisioning what might have happened and it just sends me to tears.

I KNOWWWWWWWW I'm over reacting, but I just can't shake the feeling that I won't always be around to protect him.

DH thinks I'm nuts.. he thinks this is GOOD for him in some weird way, which I'm sure it is..

[sigh] I'm a female.. I don't know what it's like to grow up male.. we internalize everything.. I'm sure boys just let things like this roll off their backs..

I remember being TERRIFIED at sleep away camp b/c we had to shower in front of each other... There were no curtains.. That was the WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD... and Aidan is at the age where he doesn't want me 'looking' at him when he's changing... Now he has to change into a bathing suit in front of other kids. He said they were laughing at him when he got naked

I hate this.

That's what my sister said... Aidan wanted boxers but DH told me since he's playing baseball he needs his boys tight and white.. Boxer breifs are a happy medium.

BTW... he had a few pair when he was first potty trained. OMG where they cute...

he's a total mush when he gets home..

I chaperoned a school trip this spring, and I was surprised b/c he was JUST as mushy... I guess it's a certain comfort zone.. he has friends in his class who he got to know throughout the year, which is probably why he allowed me to be mommy.

Aw, don't worry I am not a parent and I am the same exact way.

My niece told me that no one wanted to be friends with her ( they actually TOLD her this) and I was heartbroken for DAYS. When I asked her about it again - she already had a few 'BEST' friends.

They move on much more quickly than we do - you are just a great mom and that is why you worry! What ever happened to that bubble we were going to put him in

Awwwwwwww. Good thing my dh doesn't go to camp he has boxers with cartoons on them. It's sad how cruel kids can be but kids are also great at forgiving and forgetting. I hope his ninja turtle trunks are a big hit today.

As long as you never send him in this outfit he should be okay
