silly bedroom furniture question/survey

My fiance and I were looking at bedroom furniture last night. I always thought you just split all of the pieces and if ther's an odd amount I would get it b/c I have more stuff. For instance, half the bureau would by mine, the other half his and the same for the armoir. He always thought I would get the whole bureau/dresser for my clothes and he would get the whole armoir. I'm not concerned with the closet space, and I know we can really decide and split up our furniture any way we want, but I was just wondering what the married couples on liweddings do. Do you each get your own piece or do you split every piece 50/50?

silly bedroom furniture question/survey

I don't think that's a silly question at all, since we asked the same one when we first got our furniture! : ) What we finally decided to do was each take our own piece (him, the armoir, me, the dresser), and split the headboard storage (our headboard has two huge towers with shelves). We then split the closet, 2/3 for me,1/3 for him, since I have more things that need to be hung. Good luck deciding. I'm sure you will come up with a system that works for you! : )

silly bedroom furniture question/survey

My husband has the whole armoir (3 drawers & 3 shelves) and I have the whole dresser (6 drawers). I don't think it's a silly question though. It's one of those 'how to live in peace and fairness' questions :o)

silly bedroom furniture question/survey

Not a silly question at all! My hubby has a chest, I have a dresser, and the armoire has the tv and 2 'junk drawers'. I let him have the bedroom closet, and I took the closet and the chest in the spare room for work clothes. It works out great!

silly bedroom furniture question/survey

He has a high chest on his side of the bed, I have the triple dresser but he has some drawers in it. I have an extra (small) armoire, he has the small bedroom closet and I took the one in the spare room. But mostly, he's easy, just lets me arrange things how I want as long as he knows where to find his cloths!

silly bedroom furniture question/survey

The dresser is for my stuff and the armoire is for his IF WE EVER PICK IT UP FROM MY MOTHER'S HOUSE!!!!!! We decided to keep, or I should say I decided to keep, my bedroom furniture because it's fairly new and I love it. He's not too thrilled w/it, but I figured we'll buy a new set when we buy a house (in a year or two). Anyway, the game plan was to rent a U-Haul and get it the weekend we came back from our honeymoon, well that was in OCTOBER and it's now almost March and where is the bedroom???? I'm living out of 2 big rubbermaids and a suitcase AND I'M READY TO KILL HIM. I think 4 months is enough time being patient and now I'm becoming 'the b*&#$' -- well too bad buddy. Seriously, I love him to death and he'd do anything for me, but he's been a big procrastinator about this!! I think the major reason is because he thinks this furniture is going to be heavy and my parent's live on the 3rd floor (no elevator)!!! I keep telling him that once you take the drawers out and the mirror off, it will be light. So last night, after trying to find a pair of socks that matched and packing to go up to his mother's this weekend (Poconos), I had a MAJOR FIT and threatened to dump all the clothes all over the place, but HELLO, I'm the one who'll pick them up, so I controlled myself. Anyway, he said he's going to go and look at it again and 'assess the situation' -- WHAT THE HELL IS THERE TO ASSESS, HE'S SEEN THE DAMN BEDROOM FOR 3 YEARS NOW!!!! GOD BLESS MEN! They are totally from another planet. Here's the best part though, our bedroom wall needs to 'grow' 7 inches in order for both nighttables to fit on either side of the bed (and the headboard sits on top of them). That aggrevates me, but I told him I could deal with only one being there and we could put the other somewhere else, but we can't do anything unless the furniture is actually IN THE ROOM!!!! Whew, sorry to go on and on but once I saw this post it made my blood boil again because I WISH I HAD FURNITURE to argue about who's clothes go where!!!!

I know that you are probably so aggravated with your situation, but I just had to tell you that your entire post had me cracking up laughing! It wasn't what you said, but rather how you said it. You must have an excellent sense of humor to be able to express yourself so well, even through frustration. As for the furniture, I can sympathize. We got married in July, moved into our house in August, and didn't have any bedroom furniture (besides our bed) till November! I also didn't have a closet because Patrick was expanding the one that was in our bedroom, and had cut a gaping hole in my bedroom wall, and then Sept. 11th happened. Because of his 'disaster' work schedule, it took him till our furniture was delivered to finish the closet. While I waited, I lived out of 1 large suitcase and 6 or 8 hefty bags. Locating ANYTHING was an absolute nightmare!! I hope you get your furniture soon! : )

Thank you JennRenee!!

And you just made me laugh as well!! So you can totally relate to me! I was doing the hefty thing, until I got fed up with that and we went to Target & bought rubbermaids (oh that he can go do w/no problem). I feel like I'm always wearing the same clothes because whatever goes on top is the easiest to find, except those blessed socks. He promised me next weekend, so I'll keep you posted! But does this make sense to you, because I'm trying to figure it out and for the life of me, I don't get it: ok, I want to rent a u-haul van (19.99) and pick everything up at the same time. He tells me (I love him madly, but sometimes I just don't get him AT ALL) that he can put the mirror in his car and I can take the 2 nighttables in mine. So I said 'what about the dresser' and he said that we should see what happens with this and then get that another time. WHAT???!!! Why in God's name can't we do it all at the same time?? Why am I going to rent a van for one lousy dresser??? The dresser is too long to fit in a car, and we don't know anybody w/a station wagon or van. Not for nothing but I think my solution is the easiest one and makes the most sense, what the heck is he talking about? And then he looks at me like I'm nuts and tells me that I'm 'killing him' -- hey buddy if you only knew how close I am!!! LOL :-)

I haven't laughed so much!!! I am literally crying at how funny you are. I know you mean what you said, and I really know that men are completely TRYING on our patience! But you expressed it so well, that you took the words right out of my mouth, and it was SOOOO nice to see someone feeling the way I do! Thank you - you made my day!

My stomch hurts from laughing !!! I can TOTALLY relate !! My husbands old room at his moms house is still not 'redone' as his mom would like to have it (and she well deserves it !!) she wants to make it a little den. His bed is still there along with a file cabinet (full of anything BUT papers, lol) and his closet FULL of baseball cards (YAY, cant wait to make storage space for them :( ! ). Well we've been married for 15 months and his poor mom has been sooo patient !! We've gone there many many times and unloaded the room and came home with carloads, but its at the point where ONE LAST TRIP WITH A UHAUL would do it ! and he is PROCRASTINATINGGGGGGGGGGGG soooo badly. He keeps putting our house projects first, and its impossible to make him understand that its NOT FAIR to his MOM !!! (can you tell he's an only child ?? that has to have his way. LOL) and about the UHAUL, now he wants to just tie his twin mattress to the top of his car, (gee, took ya long enough to think of that SIMPLE SOLUTION!!) and he keeps saying 'we'll go one night, so theres no traffic on the road' and im like 'We cant go at nite, you wont be able to see what youre doing, tying the mattress up' and he just gets fed up and goes 'dont worry about it'. Hes just the type that would rather turn blue doing something and NOT ask for help ! UGH. I grew up with a big family, if the help is there, help yourself, thats what we're all here for ! so there, see what you made me do, babble on and on !! MEN ! GOTTA LOVE EM ! :)

Boy, am I lucky....

I moved in with my husband six months before we got engaged. He was a total bachelor at the time - he had NO bedroom furniture AT ALL! He lived in a studio apt. and had awesome closets, so he hung every shirt and pair of pants/jeans he owned. Socks and underwear were stacked on shelves. Well, that worked fine for him, but our new apt. does not have enough closet space, so I told him we had to invest in furniture. Thank goodness we have similar taste! We bought a 6-drawer dresser for me (w/mirror) and a chest of drawers that's all his. We can only fit one nightstand on my side of the bed, and the other one is in our spare room. So, he uses the corner of my dresser to keep his alarm clock and his 'valet' box.

glad we have the same tastes..

when it came to furniture. MISSION STYLE! quarter sawn oak- real wood! yay! Anyway, we split the drawers 50/50 in the Mule chest, then we both have night tables w. 3 drawers. THe armoir is about 60% me..and then the closet the same. I actually also use another closet in the spare rm to hold my beautifuyl but now TOO SMALL suits. PLEASE someone tell me you do the same thing!!
