It bugs me when people on both sides say they won't support the other candidate when their's loses. It also bugs me when people single out candidates, regardless of who it is, and make swipes at their characters and paint them as 'evil,' 'conniving,' or whatever other adjective they throw out there. It happens on an intra-party basis as much as it does on an inter-party level. It's time to stop this, and look at candidates for what their positions are.

I hope that this race now turns to a debate about policies, and we stop the personal attacks.

Couldn't agree more. People don't seem to be paying enough attention to what the candidates positions, plans and voting records are and spending so much time on the less important things like who Obama's pastor is, or how to construe Hillary's RFK comments, etc. In the end this person has to lead a country that is in a free-fall and will likely get the privilege of appointing one or more Supreme Court justices, shouldn''t we be clear on how they plan to do that (whoever the nominees and candidates are)?

I totally agree with you ladies, which is why I object to a previous poster terming McCain as a mini-Hitler.... that is just silly and doesnt make sense - lets stay focused on the ISSUES.

Comparing someone like McCain to Hitler.. [a man who established a totalitarian and fascist dictatorship which led to the genocide of 6 million jews vs. someone who was (possibly) voted in by the citizens of a DEMOCRATIC system.. ] is an indication of a person's knowledge other than what the media feeds them.

i am seriously not trying to say what i said was not over the top, but hitler was voted in a legal election to be in power. So in actuality it was democratic. Just what he did while he was in office was pure evil. I feel McCain is evil just like bush.

[open mouth - insert foot]

still think it's an over the top comparison, but at least you admit to it... can't argue with it.

i don't like either of them... and i'm not crazy about Mc Cain either.

and as a PP said, people WILL vote for McCain, even if they are a Democrat because Obama is just too liberal for them. McCain is more centered that Democrats would like to think.

Who does one vote for when they are pro-life in ALL aspects (so that would be anti-war), but they want justice for the poor, but are sick of being bled dry as a middle-class taxpayer? I am a Catholic that would love to try to vote like that, but you can't with any of these candidates.

I honestly don't know what to do. I have to say I am leaning towards McCain ONLY because approximately 3 supreme court justices will retire in the next term, and Obama is just way too liberal in some cases for my taste.

ITA. I have to add that I fear many Americans follow Hollywood because the actors are so vocal. I wonder how many really agree with what Barack stands for. However, many have the 'Change in 08' shirts already...

My only concern is that not many actors have any political experience or a degree in foreign policy. I become very concerned when people blindly follow a candidate because Hollywood promotes the said candidate so well.

I also despise Hillary Clinton, but totally agree with *one* point she has made. Barack Obama has been in office for 3 years and has been campaigning for 2. I'm scared....

Agreed....

and it's sad, but we are a country of puppets. If Brad Pitt says so, we do it. If CNN says it's true, it must be true.... If it's in US Weekly, it's gospel.....

Most Americans don't take the time or energy to truly educate themselves on the issues and they blindly follow the crowd. I mean, just look at how people get elected in this country. The more money they have, the more 'star power' have (and that is the ONLY reason Hillary got where she was) and the more bumper stickers and t-shirts they have--- that is how people get elected in the USA. Besides Jimmy Carter, I cannot think of any President in the 20th century that was not a celebrity or somehow otherwise well-connected with millions of dollars.

Most Americans don't even know what the hell they are voting for.... they say they are Democrats, but then vote for Bill Clinton who passes NAFTA and there went the quality of life for the blue-collar worker... that's for the middle class? or they say they are Republican and they vote for George Bush who has the worst capital punishment record of any governor in history and of course the war in Iraq. That's pro-life?

This all makes me crazy... january 20, 2009 is going to be scary as hell, regardless of who gets in.

Why is he evil? He is not even in office yet!!!! Unless you live in Arizona and have some insight from his Senate career??? Yes, he supports staying in the war longer than most would like, but his reasons for that, make some sense. and in actuality he has been quite moderate, even left, on many issues, mainly the immigration issue.

yes, the last 8 years have ******, but I don't think it's all Bush's fault, as many are quick to say. Yes, I agree he's an azz, esp. when it came to the Iraq war, but Bill Clinton set up NAFTA and now China has us by the balls becuse of that... OPEC has a complete monopoly on the oil, and the economy, always goes in cycles so i don't know how fair it is to blame that on Bush and the terrorism issue was ignored by several adminstrations before Bush... he just happened to bear the brunt of it.

Essentially, overall, I feel our government is NOT working. Through our system of checks and balances, while in theory it's fair, at the end of the day nothing gets done. The two parties are more similar than they are different and all they do everyday is argue over essentially the same thing.
I think the worst is still yet to come unless the average American wakes up and actually does something about it. It's time for a revolution!!

I think that it's incorrect to blame Bill Clinton's admin for NAFTA, terrorism and the economic downturn. NAFTA was just waiting to be finished off (that deal goes back way farther than the 90s). Clinton had a HOSTILE Republican Congress from 1995 until the end of his term in 2001. Treaties fall to the Senate to handle, and the Senate of the 90's certainly wasn't going to turn it down. And as for the current state of the economy, this current administration has done zilch to put pressure on OPEC, and let's not forget how they didn't want to take care of the first responders on 9/11.

wow... again. VERY WELL SAID

It irritates me that people do not realize that the country is still dealing with mistakes that Clinton made. Yes, he did some great things, but as you said Clinton had his faults too

I didn't mean to make it sound like I'm blaming Clinton for everything... and you're right, major issues have been going on for several adminsitrations, which is my point--- which is how I don't see why people are blaming everything on Bush. I am by no means a fan, I didn't vote for either time, but I think people go to the extreme when they blame him for everything... that is not fair or accurate.

And yes, we've put zero pressure on OPEC, but we never will. Bush and Cheney aren't the only ones in Washington who line their pockets with the profits. People are only getting upset now because it's over $4.00 a gallon. They weren't complaing 5 years ago when they first bought the SUV that gets 15 miles to the gallon.
