So, my mom's been diagnosed with Stomach Cancer........

........and they think she may have colon cancer too Really scared for my mom.........

Anyone know anything about either of these? I've been reading up online about them.......I can't believe my mom has to go through this

I have little information on either but I can recommend what my FIL's dr said to us:

don't research too much online. It may upset you too much and the information is always conflicting. If you want to know something, ask the doctor. Don't always rely on the web. It can do more harm than good.

I'm sorry to hear that.But if you don't mind me asking...what were her symptoms? I'll keep her in my prayers.

I'm so sorry Kristy!!!!!! What I can say is that I've witnessed first hand the power of the mind over the body. Help her to stay positive and encourage her to focus on going into remission!! Don't dwell on how this is a bad thing but focus instead on how it will bring you together closer as a family!!!

About a year ago, she was diagnosed with IBS, so they have been treating her with that. Then, the past 6 months or so, her discomfort had gotten worse. She was constantly dealing with pain in her stomach are but it wasn't a sharp pain, it was weird.......so her doctor told her to cut down on salty foods and spicy foods. So she did. Nothing helped. She was bloated all the time, but again, she thought that was due to her IBS. She's been dealing will a lot of bad diarreha episodes and more recently it's gotten worse.......so they decided to do a stomach biopsy and the results came back that she has stomach cancer. I dont' know how they would have missed it earlier.....unless the only way you can test for that is a biopsy? I don't know........

Now they are worried it may have gone into her colon so that's why they are doing the colon cancer tests.........they are worried about it spreading..........

I wonder if she has it in her colon if it can be cut out??? I don't know.........I wish I could just talk to her doctor. My mom is trying to sheild us from the information, but it's making it worse for me not knowing everything her doctors are telling her.......I know her first instinct is to protect us, but she's the one going through this and I only want to be there for her and understand. I wish she would open up more.......but at the same time, i know she is scared too......

ETA: I do have a close friend whose father has/had colon and stomach cancer. If there is anything youd like me to ask him, let me know. His father is doing well!
