So Sad about the holidays...

So Sad about the holidays...

We live 3000 miles from both our families which is nice in some ways but horrible in others. My family is definately more fun and easy to deal with so of course I would prefer to be with them for Christmas. But my Grandma's 90th is this month so we are having a big party over Thanksgiving so are going to Ny for that and spending Thanksgiving with my family. I know we have to share and that my DH needs to see his family too, but I hate the holidays with them. Its in North Carolina, not NY and we were there last year and my family all graciously came down to be there too. Even with my family there, it was horrible. I felt like I was intruding on their Christmas and it was not my family Christmas. Now my sister just moved to Atlanta so they are going there for Christmas. Its about three hours away from my inlaws so they want us to stop on by for the day. Its just so overwhelming and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I just want to go back to the old days where I would fly home to NY for the holidays with no drama. I miss being in NY for Christmas and am so depressed about it.

Thanks for letting me vent and sorry so long.

I totally understand. There is nothing like a Christmas at home.

I hear ya! I hate being away from my family at the holidays, but there's not a whole lot I can do about it. Here are some hugs!

There's nothing like the holiday with your own family, but at least you be with them for Thanksgiving

Cheer up,

hang in there. Our families are out of state too and it is impossible to be with them both on Thanksgiving. It is so hard to choose.

Try not to be sad! It's your first holiday as a wife!

Same here, this Thanksgiving both of our parents are coming to us and Christmas we'll be in NY with my family...but we are going to have to alternate and I am going to be soo sad not to be home for Christmas since we have tons of traditions and tons of people and DH's family is just his parents and brother that gets together....trying to make our own traditions but hard when families expect you to come to them (at least until there are )

I don't celebrate christmas-- but, DH's family is huge- mine isn't and although both our parents are on LI- my aunt and uncle and bro and SIL (and new niece) are in Cali-- that's my WHOLE family btw.. Holidays are just a total b*tch.. Esp when we don't live on LI too.. I really hate it-- also my parents are divorced so that also complicates things.

Re: So Sad about the holidays...

Thanks everyone for all the hugs and support- I am getting over it slowly but my friends in NY aren't. We always celebrate my birthday(Dec. 26) with a big get together. Everyone is bummed we won't be there this year. So with every email and phone call, I feel sad all over again.

Hang in there everyone over the holidays- at least we have each other!

I am sorry to hear that you won't be w/ your family. I know, that is hard. I hope your holidays will be nice any way!

Re: So Sad about the holidays...

I'm sorry you won't have the kind of holiday you would like wedding twin. It is difficult to get used to someone else's family. DHs are polite and nice to me, but they aren't as emotional or exuberant as my family. I can see there are pluses and minuses to both sides--my family gets into nasty arguments at times, but there is a warmth I don't see with his family when everyone is getting along.

At least for me though, I think a lot has to do with what you are used to. I am used to my family and the way they do things, but I'm trying to give his family's way a try. It's hard though--I'd rather be with my own!

Hope you guys can work out an equitable holiday schedule for visits.

Re: So Sad about the holidays...

I feel for ya sweetie. I have the same problem. this is my first year where part of my family moved out of state and then there's always the in-laws. It just makes everything more complicated. But there is nothing like the holidays with my family and I refuse to miss them because of my in-laws. We only spend Christmas day with them and DH is fine with that. I think he realizes the differences between the families and he knows that mine is warmer, kinder and a hell of a lot more fun to be around. But now I have to choose which one in my family do I go to. oh well, Everything will work itself out....i guess.
