you are supposed to have time before your family comes in - usually the baby is already in the nursery with the dad while you are still getting put back together the family usually goes down to the nursery to see the baby through the window and then afterwards when the mom is ready the family can go up and see her and then they bring the baby back in....at least that is how its always been when people i know had babies.....nobody was ever allowed to go in right after the birth nbot even the woman's parents!
Um you obviously dont have a big loud obnoxious Italian family. We barge right in without a care in the world.
we do! that is the funny part! hospitals here are pretty strict though.....when DH's sister was in labor they wouldn't even give us updates when we were in the waiting room (like to see if she was okay and if the baby was born yet b/c she was pushing for hours which is really bad for you) - my MIL tried sneaking in but she got in trouble ....
That is so funny! WHen my sister gave birth we went into the wrong room on accident! No one stopped us. We saw her name on this chalkboard and the room number and just went right on passed the double doors like it was okay. . .LOL my sister looked up like WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?! when we were leaving the nurses were like OMG how did you get in here?!

DH will be freaking out. I dont want him to see anything at all. On Oprah they said that so many men never look at their wives the same way again after witnessing what they did - it is too traumatic. So he will never go lower than my neck the entire time LOL
He will probably just be all anxious and worried. He wont cry or anything. . .*******!
some people are squeamish and get freaked out.....DH and I aren't really like that - i'm def the more squeamish one and i'm not really that squeamish.....i think its more traumatizing for the girl - i hear its uncomfy down there for awhile - ill probably be petrified to have sex again for fear of it hurting - i know after so many weeks its ok to do it but i think i'll be the one who doesn't want to do it.....please i can picture DH trying to get some that night

girls how do we think our DH's are going to handle the birth?
i think mine will be fine.....he watched me get stitches twice - like right behind the doctor and he cleaned them for me and stuff - he also takes care of the dog when gory stuff happens to her.....he doesn't get grossed out at all by blood or things like that.....
i actually think he'll be really emotional and will probably cry a lot like he did at the wedding
i have a feeling he will be really cool - DH's BIL was all up in there with the doctor when his sister had the baby and said it was awesome....and DH is like that so i think he'll be the same way....
this i cant wait to see. DH is a worry wart so he'll be freaking out about that making sure i am fine and the baby, i know this freaks him out period about the baby being fine so i cant imagine when it actually will happen. I know how he'll be, he'll be freaking out, worrying, stressed but at the same time will say to himself he has to be there for me and will try to help me out in the middle of his freak out. SHould be interesting, dh always laughs at the thought of me in labor and jokes with my family about what i will be like. I am VERY LOUD to begin in and for no reason so he says the whole hospital will know im giving birth, i will curse everybody out and probably going nuts. So yeah between me screaming like a maniac, cursing and him freaking out, will be so great

your DH sounds like me b/c i get like that.....mine worries but on the inside, never shows it - which sometimes is a bad thing b/c it comes off like he doesn't care....but he just knows how much i freak out so he tries not to make me worse

i told dave if he doesn't cry - i'll take a knife and cut off his nutz.... We've been together 7 years and the ONLY time he's shed a tear is when he heard my best friends' wedding present to us (a movie trailer description of our life together done by Don LaFontaine, the famous movie trailer guy)....

mine worries but on the outside, you can physically see it lol. For me its the opposite, i freak out too but i also keep it all on the inside, and i also do the same thing as your DH. I dont show it bc i dont want to freak him out more and try to calm him down. DH is a bit different though and on meds so i really make sure not to freak him out about stuff.

This is really sweet. DH's SIL was in the hospital - she was having contractions and his brother couldn't get there so he went to sit with her. It was way too early for the baby to be born
So, he is sitting with her trying to act all calm and he gets home and he was like OMG IT WAS HORRIBLE it looked so painful and it definitely isnt supposed to be like that!
When I asked her about it she said it was like the first two minutes of labor with her other girls LOL
poor DH i dont think i ever told him that, he thought she was in the last stages or something LOL he is traumatized.

my DH is kind of emotional - not like super gay or anything like that but he is very affectionate and mushy so i think he'll cry b/c i think it will be more emotional than the wedding was and he cried for that.....
yours will probably cry! if not, you'll have to take some video and make a movie trailer leading up to the birth j/k j/k

I think DH will definitely be emotional. He is sooooo not the crying type. It makes him incredibly uncomfortable when guys show emotion. HOWEVER, when we got married, he actually did tear up when I came walking down the aisle and I never expected that (neither did he). So i kind of feel like when he holds his baby the first time, maybe it WILL be one of those moments where he can't help getting a little emotional.

Just DH will be there with me when the time comes.
I dont feel the need to put on a show for everyone else lol
They can come in once i'm all cleaned up and moved to a room.
And me, and Claudette. And Uncle Doug.
On that note, its just going to be myself along with Uncle Doug. I think that would be for the best
Awesome, I'll let him know right now.

my family too! I definitely wouldn't mind if people waited in the waiting room and came in after everything was cleaned up. It was really incredible to hold my niece when she was only 15 minutes old!

DH loves to learn stuff so I know he will be more interested in learnign about the process and what is happening and asking questions. he will probably forget that im there so he will totally enjoy it as im suffering!

It was ex and me with the dr. I wished ex wasn't there, he was so annoying-thus ex Ex's mother came along for the ride and waited the whole night when I had my son, but not in the room. She wanted to be the first one to see her first grandkid, besides us, and she didn't drive. I wouldn't want anyone but DH and me if I had another child.
Edit to add-I think DH would be amazing to me. He has been through 3 operations with me and let me puke on him and took me to the bathroom for the other surgery and helped me pee on the wedding day. He can handle anything so long as they are not touching him-esp his eyes, teeth, etc. Then he will faint, which he almost did on his last 2 operations. I think he would be over protective of me.
When you are in labor though, all your thoughts can change. I am very shy with showing any body parts and my butt was sticking out. Ex said that to me and I screamed at him that I really didn't give a d a m m who say my butt.

Re: Someday when you give birth...
DH and I only. I can see my mom coming in when things are cleaned up. MIL I don't have to worry about b/c she lives all the way in Hawaii, I am sure she will come and visit once the baby is home and things are smooth.
DH is going to cry the entire time just like he did at our wedding, our rehearsal and when he looks at wedding pictures. He's a softy and makes everyone around him cry as well.

dh and i that is it. To me this is a private thing the most sacred thing! I do not need an audience. Dh doesn't even want to be involved he said he wishes it was like the old days when women did these things alone but i told him if he wants me to pump out a kid for him he is standing next to me.

Re: Someday when you give birth...
I would only want my husband, besides the doctors/nurses. My mom will want to be there. But the last thing I need is the issue that might cause with my ILs. I really don't want my ILs seeing me so vulnerable and naked.
