I have been thinking about this alot lately - not because I want a baby yet but I just want to know if we can make it with me staying at home when we do have a baby.
Anyway does anyone know how much 1 baby costs? I found this website and with daycare I got an estimated $12K a year!!!! YIKES! That is just for the first year!
i'm on babycenter all the time and never did this. my baby will cost $7,864, but that's because i put 0 for daycare. we're hoping MIL and FIL will watch the little one - we know she wants to! if not, the total is $12,472.
that would be cheap. I pay $15,000 a year for day care for my 2 year old
now, where is that vomiting icon.....?
ETA - breastfeeding isn't necessarily free either. A good breast pump will run you over $300.
Breastfeadding is also a lot of work. I know women who pumped around the clock every 3 hours because they werent' producing enough milk. There is no way that I'm breastfeeding. We're doing fomula and DH is going to feed the baby.

you know what freaks me out....
say you have 2 kids and you want to put them in private school or something
i am all for public school but im just saying, private schools are no joke $$
that is what s*cks, everything is so much more expensive now. It was different when our parents had us.
I went to public school but i have to say that i dont want my kids to go to public school.
People always make it work though, guess you just have to sacrifice other things

My sister and I both went to private/catholic school since nursery. We went to the same HS and the amount the tuition went up when she was there was insane. I can't imagine what it is now. My parents sacrificed so we could go to these types of schools. DH and I live in LI now and most likely our kids will go to public grade school but we will consider nonpublic school for HS.

yeah my parents friends kid goes to a private elementary school and he pays about $8k for elementary school that is alot. Your idea sounds good, dh actually did that, he was in public school he was in some program, and then HS went to catholic school. He had his paid for though or most of it at least, he played baseball for the HS so maybe thats why lol, hmmmm guess i gotta make my kids play sports he also has great grades so probably why. There are ways so just gotta figure it out i guess. So our kids better play sports and A+ students lol

My kid is $9500, but I dont need daycare and I upped the baby furniture. I removed some of the things like strollers and stuff b/c you would usually get some of that at a shower.
Those little things are expensive.

Re: Spinoff - Baby Costs
mine came out so much lower than most on here, i guess its bc i wont do child daycare. Wow maybe i should have a kid then will be lower too bc i kept all the things on there such as furniture, strollers and all those things and added some but a lot of those things you get at a shower, not everything im sure but a lot of it. If dh and i quit smoking, that alone will cover most of the cost for a baby first year lol. Well no i wouldnt have a kid right now bc its other reasons such as still enjoy just our relationship

Re: Spinoff - Baby Costs
Well it depends. You have to set up there room, and have clothes and toys. But babies are simpler than you think. Not to be misconstrued that there easy lol. But honestly DH and I went out and spent a fortune on our DS. TONS of clothes, tons of toys, and re-did his entire room.
70% of the stuff we just started using now that DS is 4 months.
If you opt to breastfeed, there meals are free. DS is 4 months now, and just started eating solid foods ie. single gain oatmeal. I seriously think it was like $3 for a can, and this can will last a verrry long time.
I was only able to breastfeed for 5 weeks because I had school 2 days out of the week, and being away from him for about 10 hours one day and 12 hours another, with no place to pump my supply declined. So he is formula fed. He is a really good eater, about 36 oz a day. Basically a can lasts a week and a half to 2 weeks. We even buy the target brand formula, because it is the exact same ingredients to similar sensitive, and he actually does better on it, and the cans are $15.89.
Baby clothes are easy, especially with going to outlets. Although my family spoils him tremendously, and this little boy is in dkny and burberry, but honestly he doesn't know the difference lol.
Diapers, umm we use LUVS, only ones DS doesn't pee through lol, and we have 2 different kinds. Ones during the day, and then overnight ones. Overnight ones were like $15 for a pack of 35, and that will last a month. We get regular ones for $15 a box and that has about 92 diapers, depending on DC size. DS happens to be a size 3 right now. That lasts us about 3 weeks. We change him every 3 hours, except at night, he sleeps for 12 hours with no diaper change.
I'm a stay at home mom, and we live off DH's salary very very comfortably. This is with DH working less hours, because he is finishing up his masters.
I'm dead serious when I say things just work out. I feel like we have a guardian angel watching over our family. Almost a month ago, we were rear-ended from some awful stupid woman, and so we had ALOT of medical expenses, and we had to replace the car seat. DH got a HUGE bonus last month, when he wasn't supposed to receive one AT ALL. I always knew god was looking over myself and DH, but not until this little boy entered our life did I really feel his presence in everyday life.
Baby's are miracles, simple as that. LOVE, food, and a clean diaper is ALL the need.
OK this is long enough now hahah.. I hope this helps, and if any of you ladies have questions feel free to FM, or find me on facebook or myspace, because I don't always get to come on here as much anymore!

I just wanted to add what my cousin told me ....she was like yes they cost A LOT but she also said that she is not spending money on things they used to ie going out on weekends, out to dinner, entertainment, work clothes, clothers for themselves generally lol
I know for DH and I we spend a fortune on 'entertainment' bw sporting events, vacations, dinners, movies, nights out getting drinkings and on and on....when we have a baby honestly we wont be doing that, I would bet bw him and I all that adds up to AT LEAST 12,000 a year
very true....
i cant remember that last time my SIL and BIL went out for dinner....or to the movies....or to a bar.....or did anything just the two of them....
she says it doesnt bother her - she rather be with the kids then do that stuff anyways....which i think for me will be true, but i hate to not have dates with my husband anymore - i think its still important to keep something going....
but b/c of seeing them, i try to hint to DH that we have to live up for the next year just in case
Just because you have a baby doesn't mean you would never have dates again! well I mean maybe for some obviously. But DH and I have date night every 2 weeks! And we still go out to restaurants about once a week with the baby, still go to the mall etc. Honestly besides being a little sleep deprived, my life has not really changed all that much, except I have a little ham smiling at me throughout the day.
But I really never was the type to go out to bars every weekend anyways, so maybe thats why too.

Re: Spinoff - Baby Costs
Apparently my future spawn is going to run me about $5500. Not too shabby. Of course I won't be doing Day Care or using baby formula (SO expensive!) or anything else that is unecessary. I'm not a Rockefeller.

I didn't mean you wouldnt ever go on dates....for DH and I we go out every weekends with friends, sporting events, shows, travel a lot...I meant that we would not do that as often. Of course we would go out on dates and out to dinner.....but we wouldnt spend as much on entertainment as we do currently.
