Spinoff: Politeness

Would you ever call someone and say 'Who is this?'

I have had those calls and it gets under my skin, my auto-reply is 'Uhm, no hun, you Called Me! Who is this?!?!?'

Sorry, just had to vent!

Oh when they think they get a call and call you back? or just out of the blue?

Either way I HATE it. My usual response is 'I know who I am. But as you called me and your voice is not registering in my mental filofax, I need to ask who are YOU and why are you calling me?'

If they get nasty I say 'Nope I did NOT call you. Maybe someone did but in order to find that out I DO need your name.'

SOOOO rude!

i HATE that!!! really, who does that??? i know it happens a lot when a wrong # is dialed. if you dialed the wrong #, simply say 'hi, is this joe's phone?' not hard to do!

Here's my tactic:

Caller: 'Uh, yeah, Who is this?'

Me: 'ExCUUUUUUse me????' with icy clipped pronunciation... (Subtext = 'oh my god you are the rudest person on the face of the earth right now and i cant believe you just called a place of business and said that you crude little person you should go back to the zoo you grew up in')

Caller: 'Sorry, who is this?'
Me: You've reached 'blahblah - name of company or [boss's name's office]. May I ASK who's calling?

If they don't say who they are by this point, I hang up, and am usually 100% sure they're a sales person or a consultant. And I sleep VERY well at night...

I get a bit snotty and just say 'It's me. Who are you ?
I don't like when I get calls at work asking to speak to Susanne M. I answer my own phone and unless I recognize the voice, I go into receptionist mode.
I always introduce myself and then ask for the person I need to speak with. Just plain old school business etiquitte.

Just plain etiquette in general. I know my kids are going to hate me lmao but they WILL be polite. IIts so important to help you get to good places in life. You have to build brdiges ot burn them.

ha ha when i was little and first allowed to use the phone i did this ALL the time. i would call and get all flustered and then say 'who is this?'

my parents used to get so mad when i did that so they would make me practice: 'Hi this is Matilde calling may I speak with so and so' but without fail I would freak out and just blurt out WHO IS THIS?

he he i used to get so upset when i did that

but as adults, yes that is so annoyin!

I am totally guilty of this...I am not usually like that but someone kept calling my phone like over and over again and they obviously let the phone go to voicemail because I got a hang up one right after...and they insisted on calling back...so when I was able to I called them back and I was like 'WHO IS THIS??' and they just hung up and didnt call back
