Spinoff - When did you meet your IL's for the first time??
I gave DH a REALLY hard time about meeting his parents!!! I finally agreed to meet them after 6 months of us being together ( May not seem like it was that long but they live only 1 mile from where I was living and DH and I were seeing eachother every day so it felt like we had been together forever at that point!)

I met my IL's before we even started dating! I met them on Thanksgiving Day and we started dating right after that. I didn't really get to know them though for a few months after that.

I met my IL's for the first time when we flew to London with my DH, then boyfriend. Talk about tense. I was so stressed out. So was he. We knew we were going to get married but as far as everyone else knew, we were just dating. We stayed in their house, too. It all went really well, though. I love his folks.

I met the whold family(2 Sisters, 2 BIL's, 2 nieces & mom & dad) at his nieces sweet 16 party 5 months after we started dating.

I worked for DH's cousin when I was in college. That's how we met. I actually knew most of his family before I met him. He was pretty much the last one of the bunch that I met.

DH and I were friends for 4 years before we started dating, so I knew his whole family before we got together. Same for him with my family.

Before our 'official' first date, we were hanging out as friends and went to Jones Beach together. We had been friends for two years already, and were developing this interest in each other, but neither of had admitted it yet. I drove to his house in Wantagh, and we went to the beach together, and then I went back there after.

He was living with his mom, so it was our 3rd date I think, we rented a movie. He didn't meet my parents until June (started dating in March), I kept him a secret a little b/c I thought they would be mad b/c he was older than me.

I met my FIL after we were dating for a month, but only because DH was in a car accident and I went to the hospital and his dad was there.

Pretty early on - DH and I were 'official' as a couple by June 03 and I met DH's parents on July 4th weekend -- when I was invited to stay over his parents house (separate rooms, of course ) for the holiday weekend and to attend his grandmother's 90th birthday party
After that, we saw each other's parents regularly... we were pretty serious pretty quickly!

i met dh in april. in june, his brother came home from the peace corps and 3 weeks later, in july, his family (mom and dad, bro, aunt, uncle, cousin) were all meeting for a welcome home dinner and he was going. he wanted me to come but didn't think his family would make a good impression on me and that i'd be uncomforable but he called his mom and mentioned that maybe it was time and so 3 months after we got together, i met the rents!

When DH and I got together we met his parents around 3 weeks later only because they were on a cruise for 2 weeks. If they weren't I probably would have met them sooner

Meeting DHs parents was a funny experience... I'll never forget it. We were 'officially' together for only about two or three months but 'unofficially' for much longer which means his Mom knew there was someone special in his life and she had been pressing him to meet me.
I kept asking when it was going to happen because I wanted to prepare myself but he wouldn't say. Finally one day, without ANY warning, he just brought me to his house and we just walked right in. We walked up the stairs holding hands and his stepdad was sitting in his chair and he barks out in a very gruff voice 'Who the HELL is THIS???' Of course, not knowing my FIL at the time, I nearly jumped out of my skin! Turns out he's a big kidder and he was trying to scare me!! Then his June Cleaver mom comes running out of the kitchen and immediately hugs me and kisses me saying 'Oh, don't you pay him any mind. Now, let me look at you!'

You know what's funny, I don't even remember meeting DH's parent for the first time. We'v been together for almost 10 years now, so I'm trying to think back but nothing'scoming to mind. I'm pretty sure I met them casually at his house a couple times befor I actually attended any family events/dinners. I think it was pretty much the same for him- though he put off doing any family type things for as long as he possibly could.

I met his mother for the first time when she visited him in NY. We started dating in July, and I don't think I met her until the following April. I met his brother and SIL in June when they came to visit and his dad and his family in October when we went to London.

I met DH's parents even before we started dating...so when we finally made it official, it was easy, because I was already really comfortable with them.
