Re: SS question... those who did it by mail.
I just mailed my form in yesterday. It said that they would send back my copy of the marriage certificate, so yes, it's normal.

Oh. I don't know, but I wouldn't worry about it. I was also told that it would take about 2 weeks to get my new card.

Re: SS question... those who did it by mail.
thanks
the letter says they may need to see my documents again, so keep it handy... MAKE A COPY!! why should i have to spend my $ to send it to you again? (i doubt i'll have to, and im sure its just to cover their butts, but c'mon!)

Re: SS question... those who did it by mail.
I just mailed the form (that you download from the ss website) to my local ss office. You can find out where your local office is on the ss website too.

Re: SS question... those who did it by mail.
what address do you mail it to? your local SS office or a head office? And all you need is the form and marriage license correct?

I want to know too. Do you have to send them an original or can I make a copy of the original?

Re: SS question... those who did it by mail.
I really couldn't take time off to go either sut because of my DH's work schedule he was able to bring all the papers in for me. You can just fill out all the forms and have someone else bring them in for you if possible. I had dealt with SSA in the past & too many times had them lose things that I mailed. Wasn't chancing it with my original marriage certificate. Also be sure to ask them for a receipt when you bring papers to them.ETA: Also needed my ID. Didn't know if they needed a copy or the original so I sent him with both.
