Still amazed almost 1 year later

Original post by PegaLega

Still almost 1 year after my wedding (OMG its for real) um it still amazes me how upset people get when no one agrees wtih them

Dont scream and tear up someone b/c they gave your their HONEST opinion when you ASKED FOR IT!!!

Also, why is it that when someone starts a thread-generally speaking-what do you think of this? the first at least 10 posters love it....then it takes that 11th poster that says 'eh its ok' and all of a sudden the posters come in droves that dont like it at all? Am I the only one that sees this?

And when you ask for help or advice dont get all bitchy and cranky when people offer up advice. Dont get bitter and ridiculous b/c you want to do it THIS way and ask for advice and people tell you to do it differently and you DONT WANNA!!! Then dont ask! If you arent willing to hear what advice people offer up then why ask? Is it intentionally to start $hit? or just b/c you want attention....

lets discuss...I need to be enlightened

Link me.

I agree that if you ask for honest opinions you have to be prepared to take them, good and bad. There are polite ways of disagreeing with someone or telling them that whatever they are showing you is not your style or taste. And there is nothing wrong with that because most of the time, I believe, that is helpful. There are also impolite ways of saying things that are not particularly productive and can be hurtful.

Case in point: I remember early on posting about a necklace I was considering getting my BMs. Some people told me they liked it, but more told me they thought it wasn't fancy looking enough, not their style, dare-I-say maybe even cheap looking? I took it to heart and got something else. Since not everyone else has my taste it's helpful to hear different opinions. But when it comes to something like hair or makeup where it's only the bride's taste that really matters, if you post pics and someone honestly doesn't like it, people are more likely to get offended. IMO In some cases there is a fine line between asking for opinions and fishing for compliments.

i think what happens after a thread asking 'what do you think of this or do you like this?'...many ppl view it but only the ppl who have something positive to say begin to answer (maybe the whole 'if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it at all' thing kind of kicks in and weeds out the ppl who don't like it. or maybe the ppl who don't like it see that everyone else is giving positive feedback so they kinda lie and join in. well THEN someone comes upon it and is willing to be honest about their opinion, that they don't like it or hate it or aren't crazy about it. and that opens it up for all of the other ppl who agree that they don't like it but were hesitant to speak up at first and be the only one opposing. thats my understanding at least.

forums are pretty interesting.

I agree with Jess on this. As for attacking people for stating their opinions that's plain wrong. If you didn't really want peoples opinions then why post something on an open forum where people have the right to either agree or disagree with you,

I forgot to add that, I always admired your honesty and have always valued your opinions when you have responded to a post that I may have made asking for opinions. I like the way that you keep it real.

Exactly-its the attacking part that gets me! It can be said nicely and with respect... no need to be a butt face about it.

So here is my take on it.

If someone is asking for an opinion on makeup/hair/whatever and I really don't like it - I won't respond. There is no point in making someone feel bad b/c taste is subjective.

Now go back and look at all of your posts to see if I responded or if I thought your pics were too ugly for me to even respond!

I'M KIDDING!!!! LOVE YOU!!!!

hey now I dont think you did every post I dont like you anymore EV GOOOOOOSH!

Now I do agree, if I look at someones mu, etc. and I dont like it maybe i wont respond-but if I think there is something that can be changed to make it look better-in my eyes of course-then I will offer up the option. I would rather have someone KNOW the truth then be upset later when they see the truth. Its always easier to love things when looking in the mirror...but when you see it for real hate it and not understand why everyone loved it. Im anal and OCD about alot of things-hence why i ALWAYS want an honest opinion.

But what do I do if the person is busted and no amount of makeup will help?

Well .... in that case ... I guess it depends if the make up helped to improve the 'but-her-face' situation ...

Yes, because unfortunately, many people post questions (not all, lets not get all bent out of shape) with pre-conceived answers in their heads about something. Some others post looking for honesty. Personally, if I ask, lets say 'Does this shirt look nice on me?' I generally expect an honest answer. I want truth and facts, not people kissing my a$$ and telling me what I want to hear, because in the end, what I want to hear might screw me. For example, even though I was booked with Watermill, seeing both positive and negative reviews of the place actually HELPED me conference with my BM about what I wanted and what I expected. If someone asks me a question, I will be honest. Did I love them completely? No. I had issues, but they still did a lovely job and I would recommend them. But I do want girls who ask me to know what my issues were-it is easier to address them when sitting in an office with 5 people rather than the day when you are in a white dress and everything is going to sh!t.

JMO-Stop sugar coating and tell it as it is. you want an opinion-get an opinion, but don't attack someone for giving their opinion when it is not the one you pre-generated. If that is the case, post and ask people to post how wonderful you are.
