We just got our duet proofs and really dont like most of them.. some are ok, but we think our guests got better shots than they did..
we're REALLY disappointed.. they didnt take some of the shots we specifically asked for or screwed them up (like of the hand with the rings, which they took of US, not of the rings.. and they didnt get the shot from the end of the aisle in back of the room (fish eye) when we were up front during the ceremony.. they didnt get a good one of our place card table, which were decorated tins with customized M&Ms.. they didnt get the M&Ms.. i belive we specifically asked for most of these on the preliminary sheet and then again in person)..
We had a few 'thank you' sign shots but we dont like any of them so now we can't use those for the cards..
this freaking blows.. im not sure what to do.. i may need to call Eric and see if they have other photos they didnt give us in the proofs box.. right now we'll have a hard time picking photos for an album

Re: stinky Duet proofs
they do include a cd at the end of the process with all of the edited proofs if it had been included in your contract with them.

I just think it is beyond retarded that you cant see ALL of your pictures before picking your album.
Granted, THEY might pick the best pics THEY think...but what if you disagree??

help me understand something ... WHY would you have to pay $30 for your OWN wedding pictures? you're already paying thousands of $ and you should be given every single last picture they took of your wedding!
I dont think it is the NORM to get every single picture taken at the wedding. I may be wrong, but I know out of the 12 photographers I went to see , none of them said I would get every picture... there are MANY that are just bad-you know, blinking eyes and things like that , they just dont print those...they choose the ones they like the best-they use their discretion... I personally just wanted to have every single picture they took that day and I am glad that I did get it and for $30.00 it really isnt bad at all

I want to add, that I loved my proofs from Jay... I just thought that some were 'missing' and I am a lunatic and NEEDED to see every picture they took that day! : ) Im glad I did, there were many I loved and would have never seen

Re: stinky Duet proofs
there are definitely missing photos.. there are also bad ones that we wanted, so i hope the cd has variations of those in the format we actually wanted rather than what they printed..
eta: I went through the proofs box again and found one of the images I thought they missed. However, I still dont understand how a professional photographer can screw up so many shots. Some of them are of my wife and me kissing (for portrait-type photos), and MY head is mostly showing. W- T - F is that? Retarded if you ask me. Also there was only ONE portrait shot with her dress spread out but the sun is glaring down on it so the intricate beading is barely visible. Out of 600 or so proofs, there is only ONE decent photo of my wife and her two sisters. There is one photo of me and her entire family and its no good. They even ruined my favorite photo in the whole lot by making it black and white whereas it'd look much better in sharpened color... I requested it via email and will fix it myself (if it's even available in color).
I'm still really disappointed with these photos. I can only hope the CD has a LOT of unprinted photos that are better than these.

I just get REALLY nervous when I read that since there weren't many family pictures or posed shots taken in the first place.

IMO, unless the picture is blurry or you had your eyes closed, you should get every single proof. it should not be up to them to decide.
it's YOUR wedding and you paid a LOT of $$. all those pics are yours. paying $30 for a CD that was not included in the package is one thing, but not getting every proof is ridiculous.

Re: stinky Duet proofs
i am not a Duet bride, but i know that our photographer did give us all the pics they took that day. but we still had 400 proofs to pick from. imo, they used their judgment on pics that came out bad.
would you want to look at the blurry picturs? or would you be happy they took the time to go through and pull out the bad ones?

i'll look at blurry pics... no problem with that... the blurry ones are probably better than some of the other ones

Im curious, because I honestly didnt know this is how it worked... Did you get every single picture taken that day...even the bad ones....blinking , not looking...etc... That must have been a ton of proofs...
I got about 950 proofs from Duet-in the box..which is a lot I think... and on the Cd there were obviously MANY more...
I wonder how it works and if duet just does something completely different...although like I said, none of the 12 photographers ever told me they would give every single proof... BUT maybe others do it differently

I don't know if I got every single proof. but I got almost 900 and none were blurry or had someone with their eyes closed. Along with the proofs in 4 boxes, I also received 2 DVD's with the original file size images of all the proofs. but, that was in my contract and that is what I expected. My photographer told us that he would take a minimum of 400 pics, but we ended up with more than double that amount.
every photographer is different. we wanted the DVD's with the original file size images so that we could order duplicates, make our own enlargements, etc.
I guess my point is that it never occurred to me that any photographer would hold back some of the proofs.

Re: stinky Duet proofs
I know it says minimum of 500 proofs in your contract, but if it doesn't say anything about a MAXIMUM then you should get all the pics they took that day. It says minimum of 500 in my contract too... but we got to see all 1,200 of our proofs.
I guess it just doesn't make sense to me b/c my photog gave us every single proof (printed AND on CD).
Do they have a reason why you get the CD after you pick the album and not before?

if you got 900 (which is a great number) and none were blurry or what not-chances are those were not all the pics taken...
I am just trying to see how other photographers do it...

the pics on the DVDs matched the proofs, so I really don't know if I got them all or not. it never occured to me to ask... probably because he took so many more than he said he would.

I agree 100% We didn't use Duet but to me the 'at least' means that they cannot predict how many pictures they will take that day but it will be at least __ amount, not as a way to keep some of your pics from you. I forget how many we were gauranteed but we got a LOT more

Re: stinky Duet proofs
Well I got the 'read only cd', which is basically just all of the raw photos (unedited and shrunk down to a size that isnt really usable for anything but browsing)... they took 1800 photos but most of the were duplicate or triplicate of the same thing (literally the same thing, so its really about 600-700 unique photos).. tons and tons of the formal portrait-type photos have people blinking, which usually indicates that not enough notice was given before clicking the button. Still many of the same problems: not 1 good photo with me and her family, only 1 of her dress spread out to show the intricate beading, none (ZERO) of our entire bridal party at the front of the chapel during the ceremony (someone was always cut off by a pole or not in the photo, yet during rehearsal they got ONE shot with everyone but 1 person is fixing my wife's dress and not 'in the shot'.. she's crouched on the ground)..not ONE of our entire custom placecard table (they took several of photos of a single placecard with the name focused.. it happens to be the name of one of the only people that caused tons of drama before the wedding) and none of the customized M&M's in the placecard holders (there was a separate tin just for the photographers to get that which was even labeled but they never did)...even our wine bottle favor table shots were screwed up (the labels on the back of some of the wine bottles were showing, which ruins the shot).. they never got the fisheye shot from the BACK of the chapel when we were at the front during the ceremony, yet they got a fisheye from the FRONT looking at the seated guests before the bridal party entered (gee, thanks guys.), none of people throwing petals at the end of the ceremony (w t f did we buy them for then?)... None of the 'missing' requested photos were taken and many of the requested ones were not taken properly (wrong angle, wrong focus, poor judgement, etc).
All in all, lots and lots of mediocre garbage. When i look at Duet's photos on the site and compare them to ours, i keep wondering what went wrong.. our shots look like they took a photo just to 'get the shot' and cross it off the list...unfortunately, i'll have to weed out most of the junk before showing them to my famiy... otherwise it would be an embarassment that we actually paid so much for these
There were several i liked that were not printed, but on the whole my wife and I are still disappointed.. One thing I would say is that if you have anything to tell your photographers AND tell the hall, make sure you speak up and be loud (screw them if they think you're bossy) since I didnt and was mellow most of the time and unfortunately i should have made them more aware of what I wanted and small things that annoyed me all night, like many of the candles in the candleabras going out.. now when i see the photos, it annoys me since thats one of the little things that went wrong.. and i didnt speak up enough regarding little things but now i look at these photos and think 'i should have...'
Duet did get some nice photos but not enough to justify paying for 2 photographers for the entire day and night and most of the ones i do like are the shots i specifically requested in advance.. many of the ones i do not like are also those that were requested but taken wrong.. i hope we can select enough for our album at this point, but im still not sure that we'll be able to... at this point, i regret committing to any additional printing work with Duet
incidently, i think we had Alberto and Nick.. i dont think it was Gio.. and I think Alberto's photos are better than nick's.. i wonder if he's a trainee or something..
