I currently pay $248 for my monthly LIRR ticket and $81 for monthly Metrocard.
I will now be paying $404.67 a month.
This is complete BS!
I am right there with you! I am not going to be afford to work in the city at this rate...
I heard that they said that ridership is down on the LIRR- I would like to see where because my train is PACKED every single day! I would like to know how there is a defecit when ppl are paying 250-300 a month for the train- times that by thousands of riders and where is that money going?

If only everyone could agree not to use the subway for just one day. But that will never happen, so the hike in price may only continue

Thats what IM SAYING!! I WISH we could get this to happen. Its so hard to get people to revolt nowadays. If this was back in the 60's-70's people wouldnt stand for it.

I take the subway A LOT and let me just say, I have NO IDEA where our money goes. The stations still look like SH1T. And just yesterday a trip that should have taken 25 mins took me over an hour because of a 'broken rail'. Arent they supposed to be improving things with this money? Or are workers getting better vacations?
My dad works for MTA and he's not getting anything extra and think the contract is up this year. I know what you mean about the broken rails. It's really the LIRR that kills me though. It's already about $25 round trip for me to go to work-right now I'm driving because it makes more sense financially and time-wise but still it's crazy.

This is what pisses me off the most. When they raised prices about 2 years ago or whenever it was, what did they do with that money? NOTHING!!!! train service has been worse than ever. In the past there would be delays here and there which ok was understandable. Now its more like a surprise if things run smoothly, i can remember just once or twice in a year where i didnt hear them announce ' there is train traffic' why is there train traffic every single day, at the same exact spots. Theres a problem so fix it, get the times right or do something different. What should take 15-20 mins to get to just queens plaza takes 45 mins, this is ridiculous. Theres been times i took the E train from where i live and lexington is the first stop in the city and theres been times its taken an hour and a half or a bit over an hour and its a freaking express train for a month now, every single day its the same thing, the next stop after mine they hold us up at the station for a bit, then next stop its the same thing and takes almost 15-20 mins just to go 3 stops. As you can tell this aggravates me lol.
Now here is something that pisses me off even more. When i used to work in jersey and would take the N train to go to dh's house(before we were married) there was an mta worker that would be there everyday when i waited for my train, he monitors whether trains are on time and how often it happens. After seeing me everyday he would always talk to me and i found out some pretty interesting things. He would tell me how long until the next train(when it was supposed to show up) and one time he said 'oh youre in luck this guy is marked as green and gets to his destination on time and goes fast' i asked what he meant and he started explaining it to me. He said some of them go fast bc they do have a schedule and they make their schedule. others take their time and on these sheets they have their names with either yellow or red, which indicates how fast or slow they usually go. One day he said to me, in the mornings its the worst bc most who do the rush hour are categorized under red now why are they the ones who do rush hour, i just don't get it. And why are they allowed to get away with it, they should be warned about sticking to the schedule. But now we have to pay more for this service. They've cut down a lot, less trains but then its funny bc theres also more train traffic than ever, none of this makes sense. Somebody should investigate the MTA also and find out what they're doing with their money.
This is the worst time to do this, and its the lower-middle class that get screwed. Its our tax money that bails out ppl who messed up the economy and now it will be us who has to pay for the MTA's mistake.

How can they keep getting away with this? Soon youre gonna have to be wealthy just to get into the effin city.
Bloomberg said for ppl to write or call in to law makers and tell them how angry we all are about this and that we're not going to take, almost an exact quote lol.

This is what Im saying! How can they get away with this when the city is trying to get us to spend more money??? Im guessing they didnt mean spend more on the Subway. They are robbing us and there is no one out there auditing these em effers and showing us WHERE our money is going. And then they had the nerve to go on strike? Lets do the same man. I wish wish wish this could happen. Just for one day stop everyone from taking the train.

I would do it but theres absolutely no parking downtown where I am. If i still lived in astoria and worked in midtown, i wouldve done it just by walking the bridge, thats not bad at all lol.
Between train fare going up and how freaking expensive it is to get lunch in the city, this is ridiculous. The other day i get a freaking turkey, swiss sandwich on whole wheat bread and it was $9 People are spending hundreds a month just to go to work

Re: Subway Fare Raised
Sadly, if Bloombergs congestion idea had passed more people would have been forced to take the train during rush hour and even help with pollution.
yeah its impossible. I did read this though, and it would be nice if enough people did it.
'Civil Rights Attorney Norman Seigel called for a one-day boycott by riders on June 1 'to demonstrate to you and elected officials we're not going to take it any more'.' Mr. Seigel may be on to something here. Perhaps we can step up this boycott effort and do it, say, EVERY Friday from June - September. I like that idea. Yes, it means that I would have to leave earlier to walk to work (from Penn Station), but I think it's worth the while.
Im sure it wont happen. But its worth a shot.
Whats hysterical is this paragraph in the Daily News:
After a fiery hearing Wednesday, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority voted 12 to 1 to approve subway, bus and commuter train fare hikes from 25% to 30% and impose severe service cuts, including elimination of two subway lines and 21 local bus routes.
So not only are they raising the fare, theyre cutting service. Go figure!!

Lea-yeah its funny bc when i was reading about this in the paper, i thought 'we should all not take the train one day and strike' not sure how well this plan would work though lol. I would do it if i can think of a different way to get to work lol. There has to be a different way though. When unemployment rates are at their highest and ppl taking pay cuts, less hours, this is when they feel the need to do this? I cant believe the vote was 12 to 1, they say they dont see any other way. What do they care, did you see one of the mta board members who votes, she dates freaking paul mcartney and hasn't been around for all the meetings bc she is too busy in London living the high life, what do they care

I don't ride the train anymore (no need to go into the city) but I do remember being a student and traveling to the city to go to college. What pisses me off is that yeah some people go into the city and we can call that a luxury (visit) but some people have to go for work (necessity). Do the big guys care? NO!!! Why don't they all take the fing train?
I will go and boycott with you ladies on June 1st

Re: Subway Fare Raised
This is RIDICULOUS. This honestly makes me not want to work in the city ever again. Who can afford it? I'm gonna start looking for jobs on LI or NJ and move. And if I do get a job in the city, I would definitely drive. You can get a monthly spot in a parking garage for $300 in some places, thats less than what I'd pay taking the LIRR and subway!!! Just imagine the traffic issues this will cause. INSANE.
