talking down to your superior

talking down to your superior

Let's say you were yelled at by your boss. Let's say you are a good worker, but were siting down for a few minutes reading something important. All day you were distracted and your boss said - finish up. Would you say something nasty back? Try to explain? Even if you really wanted to?

It would really depend on my relationship with her. To be honest, althought I am very outspoken by nature, when it comes to my boss I am very careful. I have a wonderful relationship with my boss, but she is the boss and I am careful not to talk back. That said if I had a good explanation as to why I were doing something I would politely share it

My boss is super duper great...lol but if he were to get mad at me (can't say he has) and I had a good reason I would simply let him know.

I would not talk back right at that moment all though I may gently bring it up the next day and correct her by saying something like I dont want you to think i was goofing off- i was reading something important and then mention it if appropriate.

I wouldnt talk back immediately because it could be seen as confrontational and also if your boss snapped at you, he/she may already be in a bad mood and you dont want to get in the middle of that

It depends... if my boss caught me goofing around on FB or LIW, I'd just apologize and keep quiet. But if I was doing something important or taking care of something personal and it was only taking a few mins, I would just explain it. My boss is cool though... I'm pretty sure she has seen me surfing the web many times. But she is on FB too, so she can't get mad!

Hmmmm...I usually am very respectful of my superiors and I do like all of them....however there was one time that my chair was dead wrong and spoke to me very disrespectfully. I felt that he was stressed out and taking it out on me which got me so mad....so next day, I told him off We spoke about it and straightened it out the next day though...in the scenario you mentioned, I would probably explain it and let it go unless s/he was really rude about it. Boss or no boss, that doesn't give anyone the right to be rude!
