Re: THANKSGIVING AND FAMILY QUESTION............
this is my first T-giving w/o family (which is why I begged Lisa to do something with us ;)
)as a kid...when dad's side was so big that we had to rent out the VFW hall...they used to make 3-5 turkeys!! there must have been over 50 people some years...
this is making me really sad to type...since the family has aged...we don't do this anymore...and I just heard that T-giving is in Massachusettes this year...
its sad, since my dad's family lived pretty much in the same town that their family had lived in for 300+ years and now everyone is leaving (including me)...

Re: THANKSGIVING AND FAMILY QUESTION............
Dont feel bad Tammy. My family doesnt even get along, so we are all doing separate things. I am hoping to start my own traditions with my 'future' family that DH and I create. For now, we are eating with his mom and brother. Then on Friday my brother and sister are coming over (I will cook). I know how you feel.

Re: THANKSGIVING AND FAMILY QUESTION............
We are rotating this year, everyone goes to Roger's family and then for Christmas we will all go to my mother, at least whoever wants to accept the invitation, it is open to everyone. Roger wanted it to be all his family and I told him that could not happen anymore, my family is just as important to me as his is to him. As long as we are all together, whether big or small I am just thankful. SOme people have no where to go or what to be thankful for, so I don't even let the # of people bother me. I love intimate gatherings anyway, less dishes to wash
Make the best of it.
PS Erica, I want to come over to your house to meet you and Lisa
you should have given me a little more notice
Enjoy that is too cool.

Re: THANKSGIVING AND FAMILY QUESTION............
Tammy I am with you and I hate it. It makes me and Frankie so sad. Since he is from a huge family he hates the fact that yesterday was just my Mom, Stepfather and us. My dad will be having most of his family over and Frankie's sisters all go to their in-laws. I can't wait for us to have a house and have it there with us.My parents do not get a long at all (long story) but I have told my mother when we have kids I will not be jocking around between 3-4 families. You all can come to us and if you and dad are in the same room then you better suck it up!
I dream of Thanksgivings with our grandkids one day!

Re: THANKSGIVING AND FAMILY QUESTION............
I always have small gatherings..Last 2 years it was my DH, my two roomies and me. so 4.
This year his family asked me to cook a turkey... so I made all the fixings.
It was Me, Dh, SIL, BIL, MIL & GrandMIL.
I like smaller get togethers.. much more intimate. Being ex military.. its normal not to have family around for holidays.. its all alright for me. We try to visit my family for Labor Day weekend.
*shrug* it works.
