ok now its my turn. I may ramble- very moving, keep reading

my mom died 6 years ago
my sorority sister died 5 years ago.

Jan 4, 2003 my sorority sister Charmaine had a dream my mom came to her and told her to come with her. Charmaine said that my mom came to her window all dressed in white and was floating. She said that my mom said 'I'm here to get you. Come with me, you will be safe' Charmaine said 'no, i have to stay here' my mother then said to her ' I WILL come back for you. You will be safe, I will meet you and take care of you'. then my mom left..

fast forward exactly 1 month, Charmaine was driving to a recruitment event and a car hit the median and flipped over on top of her car. The driver was headed west bound on the Jackie Robinson, Charmaine was headed east. It was a total freak accident.

I totally believe in the afterlife. I have a very strong faith. Where do we go? I dont know. I do know your spirit stays. I believe in a heaven- just dont know what that is though. Faith is the belief in the unknown, still believing in that which you can not explain.

I truly believe that there must be something better than this suffering and hardship we often face. I believe our spirit lives on in some form with those that have passed before us. I do believe that your soul has a chance to come back- semi reincarnation- in order to better itself.

I live for John Edward & Sylvia Brown. Her books especially have given me a new insight into my faith. Great books if I do say so myself!

omg, i just got chills reading that! So sorry about your mom and your sorority sister. I'd like to believe in an after life. Stories like that make me think there's got to be something more than just this life.

Re: the afterlife

Heather- I don't know if you live near babylon- but you should check this out:

My mom and sister went with my grandmother and aunt and she talked to them about my grandfather...they said it was amazing.

I went back with my sister one night and she didn't communicate with us at all. I'm not sure what I believe- but I felt so upset with my grandfather and FIL that they didn't try to come talk to me- but it may be because I was so skeptical. There were other people there that were AMAZED and she did seem to know some unusual things that she couldn't have known otherwise.

Check it out!

Wheres Jess-AugOFC 0-something..Lol

shes the inspiring one

here I am (with the cr@ppy LIW name no one can remember!)

Thx for the sweet compliment, Heather. And for sharing your story.

So, I'll share my piece. If you're not interested, feel free to skip along.

ANY question that I ever had about the afterlife, I went straight to the Bible. Who better to consult with on this topic than the creator Himself? And if anyone feels confused, Id encourage them to seek answers for themselves! (And not just accept whatever comes to our mind, whatever we'd like to imagine, or whatever others will tell you).

...I believe that there is a heaven and a hell. Those who are saved, who know Jesus for who he was (he came as man and died for our sins and accomplished salvation), who repent and choose the Lord as their savior, (faith alone, bc just acts/'trying to be a good person' alone does not save people), are forgiven of their sins and spend eternity in heaven which is to be in the presence of God, to have the joy of praising and worshiping him for eternity. I can not even come close to fathoming how amazing that will be, to know God like that...to have that close personal relationship with him without any barrier. Beyond words!

I believe Hell is the worst thing any of us could possibly imagine! That is, to be kept from the presence of God for eternity.

I also believe, as the Bible says, that the Lord gives people SOOOOOOOOO many chances to turn to him before He comes in judgment at the end of times. And yet, still, sadly, many will deny him repeatedly. But he's a loving God and so he tries again and again in so many ways to have us come to Him. I pray daily for those who don't know the Lord. I pray that the Lord works in their lives and on their hearts. And I don't pray it for any bad reason or because I think Im better than anyone, regardless of how this all may sound to people. I pray it simply because I can only hope that other people come to know the hope and joy I feel in knowing God. And in seeing the amazing ways He works in your life when you live for Him and trust in Him. I feel his presence daily and receive so many big and small signs that He is there, watching over and guiding, opening up doors for us to learn certain lessons, waiting with open arms for us to turn to him, protecting us, etc. But its our choice whether or not we accept the Lord as our savior, and therefore how we spend eternity. Of course we'd all like to think that it has something to do with us and us being nice people! But...really we were saved when we didn't even deserve it, we are saved as sinners, solely because of what Christ did and nothing that we can do can add to that. Overwhelming to think of.

I have had many ups and downs in my life, as almost all of us have here Im sure. I live with a chronic illness- Muscular Dystrophy. I lost my dad to brain cancer in 2004. Plenty of other small struggles, again like most of us have had. But my struggles were even MORE reason to cleave closer to and to BELIEVE in the Lord. Not a reason to turn my back. Not to say my walk in faith wasn't quite a journey. Sometimes things do happen in our lives for that very purpose...the blessing of coming to rely on and know Him. I would never have been able to get through any of it without Him. So he blessed me amazingly in giving me a reason to want to know Him better. So Im livin for Him...or trying everyday! FARRRRR far far from perfect, a sinner like the rest, but Im trying. And theres nothing in this whole world that comes remotely close to the joy I feel in knowing who Jesus was and is, and that I will be able to spend eternity worshiping and loving God!

ETA: As for psychics or mediums, after I lost my dad, I put faith in them for comfort. I saw John Edwards a few times hoping to hear something, I read a book of his, etc. I never saw it as problematic. It took me a long time to let go of that and realize that I was to be hoping and trusting in the Lord that my loved one was safe, watching over me and knew what was going on in my life, and not to rely on a medium or psychic for that. Its alot harder to do the former, but I've found it much more rewarding....God was always letting me know in SO many amazing ways that my dad is around me...but I was so focused on hearing something concrete and loud, relying on someone else at times, that I missed so much or didn't appreciate it as much. Of course we all want something concrete!! So I cant judge anyone else who seeks that type of comfort, because I felt that desire too. We feel like we need proof. I think thats just human nature. But that isn't true faith...as someone else on here said, it is believing in the unseen. Although John Edwards didn't speak to me personally, he did to many other grieving people there and I saw how much it comforted them so I totally get it. But in my walk of faith, when I was trying to place the Bible above everything else in my life, a part of that was realizing what the Bible says about mediums and psychics. It is undeniable that a medium may say something that seems/is spot on or that it can truly comfort people, but as to where the Bible says that kind of information comes from...not a good place, thats the troublesome part. Because, essentially, God asks of us to live on faith, not on the words of intermediary. Again, that was a HARD one for me to get, but Im glad that after praying on it, God helped to answer the question for me and he helps me to realize that the only comfort I need is in Him.

Re: the afterlife

By the way, flipping through the booklet here is a great place to start for anyone seeking answers with regard to God and the afterlife. You scroll down underneath each page to go to the link for the next point. These foundational truths from the Bible are what I believe about the afterlife.

There are also 'Alpha' courses at different churches across the US for people who have questions about God, the meaning of life, and what happens when we die.

Just thought Id share. Again, if youre not interested, thats fine too!

Re: the afterlife

I believe in the afterlife, just not sure how I can equate Heaven with the afterlife.
After one leaves their earthly body, you want to believe that they have moved on to a beautiful place where there is only happiness and no suffering.

My mom died in September 2004, after a long bout with cancer. She died in my arms with my Dad and my cat with us. I know she was around me for a while, I could feel her presence. Sometimes I could hear her call me, a very faint 'Susi' in her German accent. At night I would feel her touch on my cheek. I could swear that my cat felt her presence too, because he would just stop, listen and look, something he never really did before. Of course he always looked for her, but started sleeping on her bed with his head on her pillow.

Anyway, getting back to my mom's presence around me, I think she stayed just to make sure I was ok. I now had my dad to look after.
Then in November 2004, my MIL received a diagnosis of lung cancer. Selfish of me, but I barely had time to recover and here I start all over again, the testing, the doctor visits, surgeries, treatments.
In February 2005, my MIL went in for a routine test where her lymph nodes in the chest were biopsied. She had complications and wound up in intensive care for 37 days. She had emergency surgery on her lungs to take out a massive infection and to put 4 chest tubes in to let her breath easier. We thought we were going to lose her that night. Mike and I stayed all night, taking turns sitting with her and catching a nap in the waiting room. I knew that MIL was going to be ok because at one point, my mom was with me called my name and touched my cheek to comfort me. I actually caught a glimpse of a shadow leaving my side.
This was the last time I felt my mom's presence. I believe that she wanted to let me know that everything was going to be fine and that it was time for her to leave me.

So, in all my rambling, I do believe that spirits go to a happy place, as Christians we are taught that it is Heaven. So, I guess I do believe in a Heaven, where I can be with all my loved ones again.

Re: the afterlife

my opinion is 200% dead on with jess's (Aug07OFCBride - woo i think i got it right! lol). it was monstrously long so no need to quote - but i agree with it all entirely. God is amazing - and i can not WAIT to meet our creator in Heaven one day how amazing that will be.... I also know that hell exists as well - definetly the worst place that any of us could imagine...for ETERNITY. I too have also been through a LOT of struggles & hardships... from watching my father going down a really dark road (too many details to even get into!) and pretty much abandoning our entire family, losing people i love, my entire house(that i grew up in) burning down(and yes - being home when it happened), having an eating disorder, having my heart being broken, etc, etc, etc......through it all i could've really went down a different path then i'm on now... but NOTHING has come close to the peace & strength i've found in God. It's just an incredible feeling of safety, security, peace & happiness...and i too encourage u to SEARCH for answers untill ur satisfied and not left wondering or settleing when it comes to ur faith.

kudos for getting my LIW name right (it doesnt bother me that ppl don't, its a long unimaginative name)

There's got to be something. And something that we attribute as God. I've been good. Hopefully, I go the best place I can.

I guess I've had 'experiences' like some of the people here...but they are not expected & not asked for. The ones I hope for never come.

Re: the afterlife

Wow. here I go. I'm a firm beleiver in the afterlife. I lost my cousin in 2000 when she was 21 to cancer and my best friend in a fight in 2004... Here is an email I sent to someone regarding my psychic ....

Let me just tell my story-it will be long, but I don't know where this is going to lead me, but I just want you to get the full effect.....
My psychics name is Bobbi. I like to call her my angel.

I lost my cousin in 2000 to melanoma. I took her health for granted when everyoen went to visit her in the hsoptial and I couldnt go because i had to work, I said id go another day. There wasn't another day when it came around to it. Since she died, I always wanted to go to a psychic just to see what the hype was about and if they were real. I never went.

Fast forward to 2004 and I lost my best friend Andrew (my boyfriend growing up was his twin brother and we were together for over 10 years). He was at a party, got into a fight, got sucker punched, fell back hit his head and was braindead. At that time, I thought my life basically was going to end.

I never got to say goodbye to either.

about 2 months After Andrews funeral I was treating myself to a well deserved pedi and there was a woman sitting next to me-she looks at me and said she knew me but wasn't sure of my name. I said yes i went to hs with your son and that my boyfriend and her son played on football wrestling and baseball together so i would always see her there. blah blah. She said oh- i feel like I have to tell you something. i said waht is it. She said she went to a psychic and Andrew came through. From that moment I was sold. I listened as she told me waht the psychic said about Andrew and how Andrew described the details of his funeral and about his memorial fund to her.... I knew I had to see her.

I called and got an appt immediately. I was anxious/nervous/scared/happy... every emotion youc ould ever feel. She said to rbing pictures so she could connect with the people who have passed.

At this time, she didn't have an office so she came to me. She literally hits record on her recorder and said-- whos joe or john. i said i have an uncle john and cousin john and an uncle joe. she said whos michael. i said my cousin michael. she said whos kristine/kristy. i said my cousin (this is my cousin who passed away) she said how are they all realted. John and Michael are kristys brothers. I was in awe.

She talked to me about kristy. Kristy told her 3, november, and dave. 3=March..her birthday. November=the month she died. Dave=her boyfriend.

I was shocked. I was hysterical abot 3 mintes after meeting this woman who I now considered to be my angel.

She brought up family, my gma and gpa and my living grandmas grandpa (random i know) my sisters friend who passed, my best friends dad whom i never met. with him it was insaine-he died when my best friend was 11- i never met him. yet he was telling me congrats on the baby. sure enough his daugther found outs he was preggo that day. kristy kept calling aunty to come over but i couldnt place it. i kept saying i didnt have an aunt that passed away. turns out aunty was anthony-my friends dad. hes validating its him so Bobbi (the psychic) pulling like ac hoo choo train. he was a train conducter.

Anyway-- finally it was Andrew. Andrew started talking to me about what happened that night at the party, about his brother, abuot his nephew and his funeral, memories growing up, and a memorial garden we had just started planning for him. He told me he was ok with what happened, and that he was at peace and not mad at anyone for his death. He also said people needt o learn from his mistakes-he would make light of the situation-and joke about him being on the other side, and that everyone here needs to take his advice. to let things roll of your back and its not worth it. he said this because the reason he got into a fight was over beer pong. yup. ******* beer pong.
Anyway-- like I had said in the post, I had a very hard time accepting Andrews death. I never blamed myself, I was just lost. the fact that he was gone and never ocming back, what was i going to do??? I had started therapy just to talk to someoen, but that didnt help. It was so comforting to know that Bobbi connected me to Andrew, and besides my dreams, that is the only way I would have contact iwth him again.

I saw her in Nov of 06. She spentt he time talking about my parents marriage, and my father in law who had passed earlier that year. and of course kristy and andrew. This time was different. I had no pictures for her to see, everything was just whatever she felt she needed to tell me. She started by saying kristy said happy birthday to me. Sure enough. I went on my 25th birthday.

In the 3 1/2 years since I have been seeing her, I get nothing but great things out of her.

I know this is long, and I did blabber on, but I just wanted you to get a feel of how real this lady is. She's not a fake, she the real deal.

****************************************************

Everytime I see her she tells me something different. She reassures me the kristy and Andrew are around me all the time.

It's scary because when kristy was diagnosed, she knew she wasn't going to make it and that she was going to die. And it's even scarier that Andrew used to always say that he wasn't going to live to see 23. ALWAYS said it. Sure enough..he died 2 months before his 23rd birthday.

I live for John Edwards as well as all mediums. I don't need to know about by future, I just want to know that everyone on the other side is ok.

Ramble over.

I've always been afraid to go to seers, I don't understand why.
I guess it's because I want to move on and not dwell on the past.
It took me a long time to get over my mom's death, and my response earlier just brought up a whole bunch of feelings that I've tried to bury deep within me.

I agree totally with your first sentence. I do not believe that in order for my faith to be proven that I have to go to a church, temple. Growing up a JW and having read about and researched other religions I've just come to the conclusion that I can be a good person and follow the laws of God without needing to go to any clergyman and listen to 'his' interpretation of the Bible or deliver my sins to God via a prist, elder, deacon, minister. God can hear me and my heart from my lips and actions. I know to some this is blasphamy or just plain speaking out of term about certain religions, but with the way the rules change and how the bible can and is percieved I am not whole heartidly convinced that churches know what they are doing. My prime example is with the Catholic Church and Jesus. The church wants is parishners to beleive the Jesus was conceived, born; the his life was not mentioned again in the bible until he was in his 30's to shepard God's flock and then die for our sins. My thought what happened to Jesus BEFORE all this? You mean to tell me he didnt have any form of life bfore being baptized by John the Baptist? His mother and father (a carpenter) lead a regular life and had many other children.... So then why should I not believe things like the Divinci code can have some validity to it, especially when every couple of years new testements of the Bible are found and the Catholic Church explains they have no intenetion of adding it to the Bible just because.. they dont want to. Okay I'm going to stop now.....

I believe that there is a Heaven, through our actions in life that determines if we go there.

I believe we are in hell as we speak because of the things going on in our world.

Luke 2:41-52 talks about Jesus at 12. As for the rest, I guess some fall into doubt because we don't have a record of exactly what he was doing at all times. I guess my only response would be that its about faith, believing in the unseen.

And also, not just responding to you, but pointing out in general that a lot of ppl go to church because they want to and enjoy worshiping in community, learning the Bible, etc. (thats how I feel for example), not because they feel they have to, that it proves anything, that it has any impact on salvation (being saved and going to heaven) or because its the only way to talk to God.

I actually LOVE going to church. I've found a place where there is no judgement, I dont need to report or confess my sins to anyone or be shunned upon if 'i do something wrong.'...on top of that it's entirely encouraging, i've found a family there, and the music is just awesome...feel like i'm at a concert We are simply a body of believers who love our amazing God that we serve. I never feel like I HAVE to go to church... There are sundays when I have other things, or i'm sick & can't make it, even sometimes DH & i just accidently sleep in, etc...and that's fine - because yes, God knows our hearts...but I WANT to go ...I want to go because it's honoring Him for blessing me with everything that i have & for the trials that i've been through that have made me stronger...it's about WANTING to be obedient to Him. I have been to churches where I've gotten a bad taste in my mouth & gotten totally turned off...unfortunately there are way too many of these churches & these kinds of christians...but if ur heart wants it, there are some amazing churches with amazing people out there. I know my God loves me just the way I am....my sins are between me & him and THAT'S IT..and that's the same for everyone else. I dont judge anyone, and I dont expect anyone to judge me...and my church has the same standards...it's filled with people from all different walks of life.... i just love it there there's no rules & regulations that you have to obide by to please everyone...it's my relationship with God that makes me want to live that way..
