The inviable fence...

The inviable fence...

Joe and I are moving to a new house in a few weeks. However we have two little cats, who won't stay in doors. (we've lost three window screens from them escaping.) Right were we live, the road is very quiet and calm. However the new place we are moving to is on a very busy main road. I'm looking into having the inviable fence installed, but I'm having trouble finding out the price. The land is about a half acre. Has anyone used this product, or know anyone well who has. How much does is usually cost? How well does it work? How do the animals respond to it? Thank you ladies!

Here is a link, Invisible Fence , it doesn't provide pricing but gives other information.

I know a few people who got it for dogs, they didn't really like it and have since found alternatives. Every time there pet chased an animal (squirrel, chipmunk etc) it would deal with the shock when it left the yard, but was to scared to come back in and get shocked and sometimes would sit there, but other times run off. If your cats are into chasing things it might not be the best thing for them

I would try and find something else before going this route.
My uncles dog walked into it and laid down on it....so I would carefully consider this

I know this may seem like a silly question but do you keep your cats' claws trimmed short?
Mine don't try to rip the screens, but if we go too long between trims and their claws get really long and sharp, sometimes they climb on the screens to chase bugs and they pull them really bad. When their claws are short, nothing happens at all, their nails are too blunt to get inbetween the little holes in the screen.
You can also rescreen the windows with pet safe screens, they are much more resistant to damage by pet claws.

my uncle used it on both of his dogs at our house in the poconos and it helped. we used it on our dog last week and once it starts beeping the dog knows not to go further - then when he didnt even have the collar on he didnt go any further bc he thought he had it on.

i kno that some cost around $280

No my cat appollyon literally popped out the screen. He would scratch at the corners of an open window until it began to dent then just pop out. Mind you, our cat mastered the door bell too. Plus they run between peoples legs as someone just walks in or out the door. And their quick too. When we were trying to keep them as in door cats, our youngest cat squirts got out and disappeared for three days. Thankfully someone saw an add I put at a store and called me that they saw him. But after we started letting them out and not chase after them, they would come back. They both love the out doors and have a great time. I keep them flea free and all. I would rather try and find a safer way for them to go out than risk them getting out and then them running into a busy road.
