Re: Those looking for homes.
MLSLI and Prudential Properties are my favorites but I also check
So far my search has been limited to the internet. I really wish that more people listed the address or had more pictures posted. It really helps.

Re: Those looking for homes.
I live in Huntington----there r really good areas but a lot of really sketchy areas. I won't even consider the house if I don't know the address. A lot of sites will map the area but won't show the actual address. It is so annoying. So, of course, like a psycho, I get in my car and drive up and down every block in the mapped area until I find the house. I have driven all over Huntington, Northport, Kings Park, Commack, Centerport trying to find the houses on the websites. It would be so much easier if they just listed the address.
2 weeks ago, I was driving around, finally found the house I saw on MLSLI and took out my digital camera so I could take a pic and show DH. Next thing I know, this guy pulls up in a Camaro, gets out and asks me what I was doing. He pulled out his badge and told me I look suspicious. I told him what i was doing and he told me he'd arrest me if i didn't leave. If the realtor had posted a pic on the website, I wouldn't have had to do this.

Re: Those looking for homes.
I can't believe the prices of yearly taxes on some of these houses!!
One house in Commack is $300K which is do-able, but then the taxes are 12K a year which makes it no so do-able.
We need a tax break!

I went on that foreclosure site you posted and it was quite shocking to see 'Under Eviction' listed, THEN to see so many people being evicted.. it kinda made me sad that so many people can't afford a mortgage for a home which is a basic human necessity.
Something has to be done so people of our generation can buy homes on LI. Pretty soon it's just going to be filthy ritch, & the Elderly that live on LI!
Jon Stewart had this awesome idea on the Daily Show last week called 'Trickle up' and instead of the Gov't givng the banks the money, give us the money to pay off our mortgages, credit cards, etc to the bank, the bank still get's the money and people have a economic clean slate. I thought it was brilliant.

I totally agree. But they want to punich people, so it ***** for us. Also, the people being evicted now, are the people who bought that 300k house 4 years ago for 650 and have a mortgage of about 5k.

Re: Those looking for homes.
www.zillow.com is the site Joe went to alot when we were looking. It shows houses for sale in an area you want to search, as well as estimated values of the homes in the neighborhood.

Re: Those looking for homes.
The government is giving out a 1st time home buyer credit of $7500 to people who buy a home by June 30. (If u already filed a tax return for 2008, you can do an amended return and get the credit.)
Basically it's an interest-free $7500 loan that you won't have to start paying back until 2010 (and then you'll pay $500 back each year).
The $ could help pay for furniture if we ever get 2 buy a house.

I found my dream house (a real fixer-upper) but the taxes are $10,000!
