I can't believe the prices of yearly taxes on some of these houses!!

One house in Commack is $300K which is do-able, but then the taxes are 12K a year which makes it no so do-able.

We need a tax break!

IT'S AWFUL! it's one of the areas we are looking in and the texes are insane.

I found my dream house (a real fixer-upper) but the taxes are $10,000!

I know!

One time we went to look @ a place and the owner was cooking fish.... In the morning...

OK if you KNOW that people are coming to see your place, why would you cook fish

I've watched too many HGTV shows that tell you, light nice candles OR bake cookies to entice the seller.

OH, ps FISH apartment was ridiculously expensive AND the bedroom overlooked the LIRR train tracks.

Re: Those looking for homes.

DH and I looked at one house with the agent....

before we go in the agent tells us the seller is a chain smoker and refuses to leave while we look...

ok fine...

i couldnt breathe the ba$tard was smoking the whole time we looked....

and we couldnt look in one BR bc his son was in there with his GF or hooker maybe

and the second BR door only opened about a foot bc of all the garbage on the floor and

and the third BR had the owners rotten cereal bowl with cig butts floating in it by the mattress on the floor
:insert vomiting icon here:

and he wanted 329,000 for this pos shoe box and would not budge

IoI I told tom we should get a double wide and pop 20 kids out and maybe then I can get my multi-million dollar book deal.

This site is pretty interesting - if you have an address of a house for sale, you can find it and see what the original asking price was and how much (if) it has dropped...you can also just look at the map by town and find places...

Re: Those looking for homes.

Thank you!! I like to check out mlsli every few days or so. We're not really looking just trying to get an idea of what's around in our area. We noticed that after the holidays prices dropped a lot too. I think we'll start seriously looking in the summer so for now I will browse these sites.

Re: Those looking for homes.

here is a question do you look at homes to get a concept of what you like or do you go to a bank and see what you can afford etc?

I mean I realize we are not buying a house tomorrow but I would love to look around at foreclosures in our area which can be $150-$200 which we could swing if I can find out about some HUD loan? so lost with this stuff.
